Travel Tips for Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie Golf Club

by Mikebb

For those who wish to enjoy a game of golf there is a great club nearby providing social golf everyday. The pro shop can provide you with hire clubs and any other necessary equipment with the cafe open for lunch every day.

Little Beach

by iandsmith

This is located about 15 minutes south of Port Macquarie at a village called Bonny Hills. This headland in spring attracts many birds, notably the red-tailed cockatoo, a spectacular and clumsy black parrot that comes in to feed on the banksias when they're in bloom.
Little Beach was once the scene of a fatal shark attack many years ago.
Sometimes you can get good surf here, though nearby Rainbow Beach is usually a better option, and fishing is also a common pastime.
As it's a nature reserve you can feel with some certainty that if you choose to go here it will be in the same condition as when this picture was taken.

From Sydney follow the Pacific Highway north. It is a 4.5 hour drive to Port Macquarie via the Oxley Highway turnoff. Port Macquarie is a wonderful busy town with beautiful beaches and excellent accommodations and restaurants. You can take a cruise with the Hasting River Cruises or do a camel safari along the beach.

The kids will love this town; don’t forget to visit the Koala Hospital and Wildlife Park. as Port Macquarie is known as the Koala Capital of Australia.
