Fabulous walkway around the lake
by unravelau
There are lots of activities to participate in around the lake, not the least of which would be the brisk walk or amble on the timber promenade. I caught sight of this ferry arriving at the dock....preparing for the day of rides for visitors no doubt, so I took a couple of photos and listened to the music for a little while. I guess that there are many things that I like about Port Macquarie now where before I hadn't been all that interested. So it has the charm of small town friendliness but big town shopping and entertainment facilities. Yep, I like it better now than I did all those years ago. Of course I would have to learn how all of the streets work......get a map for instance. LOL.
Timber Town - Really very good pioneer town!
by Jerelis
There is also a blacksmith, a leather-worker and other craftspeople, a railway station, a steam train, a steam sawmill, shops, a pub and barbecue facilities. This is a really very good pioneer town set on 87 acres.
Not far from Wauchope is the Wilson's River Primitive Reserve, which is one of the best forests in the region. There are three good bush walks through the park varying in length and taking in some of the most spectacular ancient forest scenery in the area.
Nobbys Beach
by iandsmith
This is en route on the beach walk that goes all the way from town to Lighthouse Beach.
This particular opening shot was taken looking along Nobby's Beach to Nobby's Hill (where do they get those deep and meaningful names?).
The second shot indicates a monument atop the hill and the third is the poignant story behind it all. It turns out that a man was drowning in a cave below the headland and someone went to help him. The oft-repeated tale then occurred where they both tragically perished. It's a real heart-breaker.
