My great experience at a Sydney hostel

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 17, 2014

I've read some mixed reviews of this place online, but can say that I and my friends (and mom, when she visited) had a good time at this hostel.
They don't have 'mixed' rooms here, just 4 or 6 bed female and male dorms for $30/night (2011) although there were sometimes discount if you stayed at least a week. Private double room is $80/night.
This place has several stories - the kitchen is in the basement; its large, quite noisy and has many fridges where backpackers keep their food. Plenty of tables to sit and eat, as well as computers. There is also a common area/computer room on the 2nd floor. Reception is on the 1st, ground floor.
One con I would say is that the key card system was a little annoying because they would sometimes cease to work and you would have to get a new one made. You also need your key card everywhere in the hostel - make sure you take it with you when you leave your room to go to the bathroom, because otherwise you won't be able to get in the bathroom and will be locked out of your room!
This hostel is about a 30-minute walk from Circular Quay, where the Opera House is located. I personally loved the walk; there was tons to see on the way and great to be outside. If you don't like the idea of doing much walking, it might be better to find something more central to the main attractions. I loved the area this place was in, but I believe the closest attraction is Chinatown. The Sydney tower, aquarium, and bridge are all 20-40 mins walk, depending on how fast you go. Of course there's always public transit too.

Unique Quality: -Very comfy beds that had little nightlights on each bunk
-Loved the area. Lots of good food around
-Air conditioning in the summer
