 | Sydney Reviews | Tips 501 - 510 of 511 | | I have stayed for several nights at this hotel as it is convenient if you are taking courses at Landmark Education which is across the street, or want a cheap place to stay while in Sydney. It is a quick walk over the walkway to Darling Harbour and is Convention Centre stop on the monorail and tram. There are good restaurants in the area, as well as small delis and a newsagent - all just up the block. It's more of a pub hotel that a 'hotel' as you might know it.; no en-suites, all rooms are with shared baths. No tubs, just showers. Rooms have small frigs and items for making coffee/tea, so feel free to stock up the frig with snacks, etc. if staying for a couple of days. Rather rundown and in need of a spruce-up as it is REALLY heavily frequented. Good value if you just want a place to rest your head, but expect no amenities. Rooms are comfortable and basic. Their staff do keep the bathrooms very clean and will clean your room each day unless you choose to have service held until you leave, which I do when I am there. Breakfast is mediocre unless you order the hot food, which you pay for. In the summer, try to book rooms on the lower floors as the third floor gets HOT. Not a lot of cross-ventilation but there are fans in the room and small heaters in winter. If you have no choice and are on a budget, it's OK. Books up fast, as visiting school teams often stay there, and others attending courses nearby stay as well. YHA hostels in Australia are pretty nice and clean. This one is not an exception. Many people think that there is only 1 YHA in Sydney city which is YHA Central and overlook this lovely Railway Square YHA, what a pity, as the dorm rooms here are cheaper than Central, which is just a few minutes away! Also, this hostel is quite new and well maintained (its previous use was a railway station). If you're willing to pay AUD6 more, you can even share a cabin with others! Its kitchen is huge and clean too.
...yet to be improved It'd be more backpacker-friendly if free luggage storage rooms could be provided. Leave a Comment

My 1st stop on my grand adventure, very pleasant staff and great atmosphere, always something on the go, The hostel has great views of the city from rooftop and outdoor area, heated pool, sauna. Self-catering kitchens, laundries, games and TV rooms, locker hire, limited parking, group facilities, meeting rooms, disabled access, 24 hour security access, YHA Travel desk, internet, bistro, convenience store. Regular activities: pub crawls, sporting events, free market tours, movie nights with free popcorn and BBQs..(Highly recommended!)

I have stayed at the York Apartments twice and each time was fantastic. We stayed in a deluxe one bedroom(meaning newly renovated). The staff are friendly and very helpful. The apartment comes with free parking for one car, which is great, since other apartments charge atleast $20 a day. The room was great. On our second stay, we stayed in room No. 1506, which was lovely. Quite large sitting area that was nicely decorated with a modern flair. Well equipped kitchen with electric stove. Nice bathroom with large shower /bathtub and washer and dryer. They give you one free sachet of washing power, for more they sell at the front desk for about a dollar or so. The bedroom is a bit small, but has a comfy bed. We traveled with our 7 month old son and we were very comfortable. The staff were great and provided us with a highchair and baby cot at no extra cost. All rooms have terraces that over look the city. We asked for a quiet room and had a lovely view of the skyline and the Sydney tower. You may want to request a quiet room, since some rooms face the on ramp to the harbour bridge. The location is great. Around a ten minute walk to the rocks or darling harbour. Maybe around 15 to 20 minutes to Hyde Park, David Jones. I would definately stay here again. The only downsides are: Breakfast is very expensive. They told us it was around $27 a person and would discount it for us at 18. For the same price as one breakfast, my husband and i bought groceries and made our own, which was enough for a few days. Not many restaurants nearby, except a Japanese ramen restaurant, which is very popular. There is an excellent Belgian restaurant nearby, also many 7-elevens. Well, we were expecting much more. The room was freezing and just next door to the toilet. We could hear all possible noises. Friendly hostel as advertised wasnt so friendly. We felt quite strange there. Room was clean but it was funny smell all around the building. The good thing was location. Close to cheap food about 20 minutes walking to harbour Leave a Comment
