I usually prefer smaller hotel but this one was very convenient about its Sydney's location. This 525 rooms hotel is very well located in Darling Harbour with great city views. My room was clean, spacious with all standard equippements. You could reach within a short walk the Aquarium, IMAX, shopping, the Powerhouse Museum, Maritime Museum Chinese Garden and lots of restaurants, cafes and clubs. Just to the front of the hotel there is a monorail stop to travel around. At the hotel you will find a restaurant, a lounge bar, a gaming lounge, a swimming pool, an outdoor private closed parking and a fitness center . You could easily rent a car from the hotel to do a day trip excursion as I did to the Blue Mountains.
Very well located in Sydney center. All main attractions are easily reachable within a short walk. | | | | Westin Sydney (The): A perfect hotel at a perfect price Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We chose the Westin for the Sydney leg of our honeymoon after reading some good reviews online. We were not disappointed. We opted for a room in the modern Tower rather than the period-style Heritage rooms in the older part of the building. The hotel was absolutely perfect. Flawless (and I mean flawless) service, a luxurious, contemporary-style room and all at a great price. I cannot find a single fault with the Westin. You may not have a view of the Opera House, but let's face it, how long are you going to spend sitting in your room looking out the window? The lower rates more than make up for this, in my opinion. As it was our honeymoon, a relative had kindly paid for an upgrade to the 'Executive package' which includes complimentary Continental breakfast, use of the Executive lounge (newspapers, TV, pre-dinner drinks etc) and other benefits. The rack rate for this upgrade is 66 AUSD per night but I think discounts are available, so you might want to consider it. We also tried the hotel's non-complimentary breakfast buffet which was very impressive too. Try the eggs royale! The Westin also has the advantage of having some great restaurants in its basement floor, so you don't have to travel very far to find a good place to eat (we actually found the CBD area of Sydney a little short of places to have dinner at night so this was a bonus). The basement bar/dining area is buzzing on a Friday night, quieter at the weekends. All in all, I would give the Westin a perfect 10 out of 10.
Outstanding selection of restaurants on premises. Central location provides easy access to whole city. Wonderful service. | | | | Medusa: Stylish if a little camp (Darlinghurst) Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I'm slowly getting through most of the hotels in Darlinghurst area! The Medusa is the latest - sadly I only stayed overnight - this was one of the friendliest places I've stayed in Sydney and also one of the most comfortable. Tucked behind well established shrubbery on the busy Darlinghurst Rd, the hotel is a conversion of those fab double-storey, front balconied Victorian homes. The initial reaction inside is that its somewhat on the camp side - there's a lot of various shades of pink and some flamboyant decor going on! But its not too in your face and the staff are great - couldn't be more helpful. Rooms are either in the older part of the original building or in the new extensions at the back. All standard rooms are to be found in the extension - and they are seriously hip and seriously stylish but also seriously comfortable!
The rooms face into the courtyard, along one wall of which there is a fountain running entire length of the yard (I think it was also a plunge pool but as it was raining and nippy, it wasn't something I thought of enquiring about at the time :)). As they're out back, there's no sound whatsoever from the busy Darlinghurst St. Rooms are big and well stocked - a mini-kitchenette in the corner, along with added extras such as DVD and CD player, well-stocked mini bar (including several different flavours of condom!). The design of the rooms is also a serious issue - certainly one of the most stylish places I've stayed in in this price bracket (half price through wotif.com) STYLE AND A LOT OF FUN. EXPENSIVE WITHOUT INTERNET DEALS THOUGH. This was the best hotel stay ever. I don’t know if I can call it a “hotel”, it’s a rather large multilevel house with suites (rooms) on every floor. On the ground floor there is a living room for all guests to utilize. It’s filled with comfy furniture and lots of books and magazines for you to read. There is also complimentary port and brandy in the adjacent sitting room. There is a glass enclosed room in the back of the ground floor where they serve breakfast. It’s a pretty simple breakfast spread; toast, English muffins, fruit, cereal, juice, coffee and tea. Not extravagant but it fills your tummy and it’s including in the room cost. In the breakfast room there are newspapers and tourist brochures to read through. The hotel office is located here as well and there is always a staff member eager to answer your questions about where to go and what to see. They were very helpful in suggesting where I could find an original Christmas ornament from Sydney. Our room was on the first floor and it was appropriately called The Cloud Suite. We had a large window with stained glass accents. The bed was huge and had a beautiful floral bedspread. There was a nice sized couch and a wingback chair. The coffee table had some nice magazines spread on it. There was a large armoire complete with full length mirror, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. The TV had a DVD player and there was a nice selection of DVD’s in the console as well as a refrigerator. A nice writing desk was at the entrance of the room. The bathroom was large with a Jacuzzi tub and a separate glass door shower. A nice sink with a large vanity and mirror completed the bathroom. We spent a lot of time in the Jacuzzi tub after some long days walking around Sydney. On one side of the room was a nice fireplace with a large mirror above the mantle, being a woman I can never have too many mirrors. I can’t wait to return to Simpsons again. It truly was a fantastic experience that I recommend highly.
Since The Cloud Suite is the Honeymoon suite; it came with roses, a bottle of champagne and chocolates. It was a nice romantic touch and we fully enjoyed sipping champagne in our Jacuzzi tub.
