Sydney Internatinoal Airport to Sydney downtown

by RKH88

From Sydney international airport to Sydney downtown area – what is the most economical way to travel – by bus or by train? If by city bus what is route number, etc.,
How long will it take from airport to downtown area?

Your suggestion is much appreciated.

We bought a week pass for $59 which include train ride from airport to hyde park and back to airport, train in zone 1, all buses and all ferries. Airport ticket is separate, use the ticket to enter and save it and on your way back, use it to exit airport on your last day.
If you just need train ride from airport to CBD, I believe it is $15. Google for more details.

I did it by public bus and it was great and inexpensive. Take bus #400 outside of the arrivals area to Mascot, tell the driver you want to transfer at Mascot to a bus to the CBD, he will let you know where to get off, the driver was very helpful, you then need to transfer, cross the street and look to your right and you will see a bus stop, most buses that stop there will take you into the Central Business District, just ask the driver if your unsure, they are most helpful. I believe I paid about $3.00 for each bus and it took about 50 minutes total. I got off at the Central Train Station but the bus will continue into the CBD. It was easy, interesting and I enjoyed it. $15.00 for the train, what a rip off for a 10 minute ride. I took the bus back to the airport also. Don't be diswayed by those that might post a negative regarding this. Easy, fun and simple.

By the way,I forgot to mention that the #400 destination sign will read Bondi Junction.

Holy crap, 50minutes from the airport to the city?
But as you said, you enjoyed it, and it was cheaper!
Everyone totally agrees - the airport train is a total rip, but you should check out the parking fees we have to pay for this airport. Highway robbery.

Didn't think 50 min was too bad, wasn't in a hurry, about 20 to Mascot, 5 minute wait for the next bus and about 25 min to Central Train Station.

Travel Tips for Sydney

Australia Day

by Steve-H

January 26th is Australia Day, the streets are closed and one of my favourite things is the vintage vehicle display. 1000's of cars, trucks and some motorbikes too line the roads and made the perfect way to idle away an afternoon in the sun. I went to the gardens and ate at the food court, strolled around the vintage cars, tried a few bars, met friends and spent the evening watching the celebrations. Fond memories? you bet.

When in Sydney you absolutely must take a boat on the Syndey Harbour (actually Jackson Harbour). It vivals all the other great harbours of the world. On a clear, sunny day you may mistake it for heaven. A true favorite of mine that never fails is the Sydney ferry to Manly Beach (30 min by ferry or 15 min by JetCat).

Relax while enjoying a walk around Sydney

by Gypsystravels

As I have mentioned on a transportation tip earlier, I love to walk, and why not? I've learned that some of the best places I have discovered have been while strolling along at a leisurely pace.

While you're exploring Sydney on foot stop and enjoy the many beautiful sights. You can also find some great little known spots to stop and watch the world go by, so why not just kick up your feet and take in this beautiful harbour city at your own pace? Just stopping at the harbour after a long walk and enjoying the beautiful city.

Paul Keating Park

by iandsmith

You can tell which side of the political spectrum the locals here are on by the namimg of this park after one of the more controversial Prime Ministers Australia has had. His parliamentary rhetoric was legendary for, at times, being somewhat "earthy" and he pulled no punches with some of his criticisms.
This is located on The Mall, just by Chapel Road in Bankstown.

The Mardi Gras parade in March. If you're here at that time the city puts on a spectacular 3 hours parade along Oxford St. This year over 500.000 people turned out for the event so if you want a good spot, you must go early and/or bring something to elevate you.
