We really enjoyed our stay at the Billabong Gardens and we will defiantly use them again when staying in Sydney. They are just off Kings street in Newtown which is a fantastic place to stay. Kings street is a hive of activity with some great restaurants to grab a meal. Lots of shopping with really unique items from all around the world. I love the atmosphere of Newtown. Its popular among Gays, Gothics and all round hippies - I love it!
Unique Quality: We had a double room with a bathroom. The room was very nice, clean and had a few items that are some times lacking in other hostel accommodation such as tea/coffee provide, a heater, and a mini fridge. The hostel also has a laundry room, lounge room, kitchen and swimming pool.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were delayed at the airport by 3 hours arriving at quarter past midnight. They waited up for us and help with directions when our taxi driver didn't know the area.
I need your help about where to stay during my 6 days visit to Sydney.
I've checked out following places:
1. Maze Backpackers
2. Sydney G'Day Backpackers
3. Dulwich Hill YHA
4. Billabong Gardens
5. Funk House Backpackers
6. Alfred Park
Does anyone stayed at one of above mentioned?
Good location is the most important thing for me.
Thanks a lot!!! :-)
I stayed at Alfred Park Hotel for 10 nights last year and found it to be good value for money.
It is located very close to the central train station, but quite a long walk (25-30 minutes) from Sydney Harbour. You can catch a bus though if you don't fancy walking that far.
You can read my full review here if you're interested:
They also have an informative website:
Hi Stay around the city, north Sydney etc close to train, good transport is essential.
Hava a nice time!
I have stayed at Maze Backpackers - it is close to Central Station - but is very shabby and poorly run.
Also at Alred Park which is really quite nice - just above Central Station so it would take at least half an hour to walk to Circular Quay.
Dulwhich Hill I don't know but it sounds as if it must be at Dulwich Hill so therefore not a good location.
I think Alfred would be good choice.
i dont know if you have been to alfred for your vacation in sydney,i am also going there this november,if you could give me some feedback on alfred?i am also considering big hostel and billabong gardens?
and also for the others who stayed in billabong gardens or big hostel, please give me some feedback.
thanks a lot
Billabong Gardens in Newtown? I've stayed there twice. Once I stayed in a private room with en suite with my husband and it was def. not worth the money - coulld have done much better for 80 bucks somewhere else
but as a hostel it is fine - not the best i have stayed in but def. not the worst
newtown is a nice area too
