Quiet Comfort in Wild Sydney

Challis lodge is close to King Georges cross, one of Sydenys famous night life areas. You are also a short walking distance away from the harbour and famous opera house. The place features carpeted floors, nice big comfy beds, and very friendly atmosphere. Also quite economical. I would surely recommend it to get a sound sleep after a wild night out! :)

Unique Quality: All studio rooms - single, double, twin or en-suite - have hot and cold water, TV, fridge and tea and coffee facilities. Laundry facilities are also available.

  • Opinion of Price: less expensive than average

I am booked into the Challis Lodge, Kings Cross, in October. I am familiar with Sydney but do not know this hotel. Any comments welcome. I have an alternative at O'malleys in William St but again can't place it.

hi ian,
the link for challis lodge shows that it is located past kings cross and down towards the woolloomoolloo area. check this site

o'malley's is pobably better located before the start of kings cross on william street. the site says two minutes walk to the train station. certainly closer than the challis lodge. the link is

Both These places are in the heart of King's Cross. I agree that they may both be a bit noisy especially as late niters/early morning returnees from the clubs go past.On the other hand , you will be very close to the city as well as all the action especially if there is a naval ship in at the time.
For something a little quieter , why not try a boutique hotel or B&B just out of the city say Newtown, or Paddington.. There is always fairly good and quite cheap public transport to both these areas. Have a look at Tripadvisor .com under their B&B section

Thanks for that, as I said I am familiar with Syd and have also stayed at the Springfield Lodge. The room was crap but I expected nothing better for the price. I was in Syd for Bathurst and had delayed flights so intended to watch on TV. Guess what was the only channel they couldn't receive.

hi june, if you are thinking kings cross, why not try the new formula 1 hotel/motel.
Site: http://www.hotelclub.net/hotel.reservations/Motel_Formule_1_Kings_Cross.htm

At least it is new and the listed price is $89 per night. Or you could try the YWCA accross St James station. The rooms are reasonably priced and very clean. Had some friends stay there and they were happy.

all the best, susan

O'Malley's is situated right next to a major under pass, you will hear the constant flow of cars all night long. Plus a small alley runs down the side and that alley can get pretty damn average with all the drunks filing out to hit the next bar. Whay not stay down the beach?
