A big improvement on my second visit

The Four Points Sheraton was only slightly more expensive than the Rydges Hotel and was a HUGE improvement. Our second stay had us staying in Sydney 4 nights and the Sheraton was comfortable and well located. A mwalk to Darling Harbor, there were plenty of good choices in the area for restaurants and a nice morning walk.

The hotel had a very comfortable room with nice amenities and all the expected services. The onsite gym was a great asset. Again, at AU$25 per day, the internet fee was outrageous but there were two free computer terminals in the lobby. My other negative was that the telephone was on the desk and not by the bed; not convenient at all for that morning wake up call!

The hotel restaurant was really pricey and usually pretty crowded. AU$35 for the breakfast buffet was very high and I wandered to a little cafe next door where I got coffee and a BLT for AU$10. It was friendly and quiet as well.

The hotel staff was wonderful.

Unique Quality: For some reason my door keys kept getting deprogrammed. I wondered if putting them in my pocket, next to my bionic hip could be the problem. It was a tad annoying since I was usually really tired by the time I got to my room.

Good location

by A TripAdvisor Member

We just stayed at 4 Point Sheraton @ Darling Harbor Sydney for 3 nights. Excellent location to all transportation in downtown Sydney and friendly staff. For a reasonable Cathay Pacific rate we of course didn't get the Darling Harbor view. Room is spacious.

We will definitely return.

Great hotel and location

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have just returned from Sydney, we actually stayed in the hotel twice while in Australia. The hotel is of a high standard. We stay in the Standard Twin - both the city view and harbour view. Can really recommend the harbour view.
Room sizes are good, the beds are very comfortable - slept like a baby. Bathrooms very good, with a powerful shower. Housekeeping was excellent.
I was ill on the holiday, and the hotel staff were very good in getting me to a doctor and advising me what to do.
The location is great too - much preferred the location of this hotel, than one which looked over Sydney Harbour, plus Circular key is only a short ferry trip away. Walking to circular key is only 15 easy minutes away.

Cold Room

by A TripAdvisor Member

We are currently (May 5, 2005) at the hotel. The room is cold. The temperature control is odd, having marks for cool, warm and unmarked dots (see picture). The instructons say that if the room is cold, don't turn the unit off, set it to warm and turn the fan to high or medium. Any and all of the settings have no effect. We are cold, except when taking a shower. I hate having to wear a jacket in my hotel room.

Sheraton 'Lite'

by A TripAdvisor Member

A disappointing end to our great trip to Australia - this is a very big and impersonal hotel - full of Asian Tour Groups and a convention when we stayed. They kept asking whether we were with the convention at every restaurant and breakfast service was very slow and ordinary. Not really a Sheraton in terms of standards and the staff very rude and unhelpful.

Lovely hotel and great location. definitely recommended

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed here in April 2005 for 4 nights as our second stop whilst travelling around Australia. We had a very nice, comfortable and large room with one of the biggest beds we had ever seen which was also extremely comfortable. The room had all the essentials we needed plus a good shower in the bathroom. Paying the extra for a deluxe harbour view is definitely worth it as it meant we had a bigger room with a balcony and a great view of Darling Harbour. Although there are two very busy and noisy roads just below, the double glazed balcony doors are very effective and cut out all the noise so we had no problems sleeping. The hotel is very well located for all the main attractions, water taxis and ferrys. We did not bother with the hotel restaurant as there were a couple of conferences in the hotel at the time which meant that it was very busy and anyway there are some very nice restaurants in Darling Harbour that are much better. The staff were all very helpful and polite. No complaints at all and would definitely recommend this hotle to other users.

forget the rest stay here and spend the extra $ on yourself

stayed for 4 nights in may. this is great. so nice to find a clean room, friendly staff, smiles, and good tucker (aussie for food). value for $...no arguements. great handy position..monorail, shopping, convention centre, restaurants.
management must really care about this property, just could not fault it. have stayed at four seasons sydney & sheraton on the park before..what a waste of $. i think some of these people in the so called flash hotels think they are the guests.
tip for shoppers if you want men's shoes josephs shoe store..top brands, great prices, even better service.
i don't believe there is any chance of going wrong by staying here. can't wait to get back

Luxurious and Comfortable

by TripAdvisor Member JRL4

Got a great deal (fourth night free) on a harbor view room on the 11th floor thanks to my starwood membership; even though I have no real status we were on the preferred member level. Excellent accommodations, very comfortable bed, lovely view of Darling Harbor. Quiet, clean and very plush. Concierge services very helpful, able to change money at the front desk at a better rate than at the airport. Food in the restaurant rather pricey, but concierge directed us to more affordable, good food nearby. Would happily stay there again.

Great hotel

We have just come back from our honeymoon in Australia and this was our first stop. We were upgraded from a city side room to a harbour view (I think because our travel agent had told them we were honeymooners). The staff were really friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The room was comfortable, spotlessly clean and had an enormous bed!
We didn't eat any meals there as it was too expensive but being 5 minutes walk to Darling Harbour there were plenty of places to eat within easy walking distance.
Although this hotel is rather big and there are alot of business travellers staying there, we knew that in advance and quite liked having some anonymity.
We had a problem with the television not working on the second evening and the hotel sent someone up who fixed it immediately which we were impressed with.
Location wise we loved it. We walked everywhere in Sydney and found it easy to find our way around. Alot of the trips leave from the harbour and with the Aquarium, fantastic restaurants and bars and other attractions right outside, we were glad we had chosen to stay in Darling Harbour rather than by the Opera House. We really liked the hotel and would certainly stay there again if we (hopefully) one day make it back to Sydney.

Not happy Jan

You know how when one thing goes wrong at a hotel and everything can head south after that? I suppose I shouldn’t have too high an expectation – this hotel is quite big and therefore a bit impersonal. We arrived and there was no-one to welcome us at the driveway, we found our way to the Front Desk at about 4.00 pm only to be told that they had had a big group checkout and our room would not be ready for an hour. Went back an hour later, still no room – half an hour later finally got a key, only to discover someone already in the room. Eventually allocated another room with a complimentary Harbour View upgrade. Awoken at 0700 by housekeepers having an argument in the hallway…yes, you guessed it, argument was about a Do Not Disturb sign…queued up for 30 minutes for breakfast…etc etc etc…just a horror stay.
