NEO GOTHIC WITH A TOUCH OF GRACE

    by

WE FIRST STAYED IN THE GRACE BACK IN FEB 2006 ON OUR FIRST TRIP TO AUSTRALIA,
WE WERE VERY HAPPY WITH OUR STAY THAT WHEN WE RETURNED TO SYDNEY IN MARCH 2007 WE HAD NO PROBLEM IN MAKING THE GRACE OUR SYDNEY HOTEL OF CHOICE.
THE GRACE IS RIGHT IN THE CENTRE OF THE SYDNEY CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT AND ONLY A FIVE MINUTE WALK FROM DARLING HARBOUR AND COCKLE BAY WHERE YOU WILL FIND NO SHORTAGE OF RESTAURANTS TO CHOOSE FROM, PLUS WYNYARD METRO STATION IS ALSO ONLY A FEW BLOCKS AWAY. AND FOR SHOPPING THE QUEEN VICTORIA BUILDING WITH ITS 200 STORES IS ALSO CLOSE AT HAND. WE FOUND THE ROOMS AT THE GRACE TO BE VERY SPACIOUS AND CLEAN AND VERY COMFORTABLE, PLUS THE BATHROOM IS ALSO A GOOD SIZE. THE HOTEL HAS SEVERAL NICE RESTAURANTS SUCH AS THE GRACE CAFE AND THE VERY FANCY NEO RESRAURANT..AND NOT FORGETTING PJ O'BRIENS IRISH BAR, A GREAT PLACE TO CATCH UP ON ALL THE SPORTS NEWS AND ENJOY A COLD GUINNESS.
ALL IN ALL THE GRACE IS A LOVELY PLACE TO CALL YOUR HOME WHILE YOUR STAYING IN SYDNEY, THE COMFORT THAT IS OFFERS IN ITS NEO GOTHIC STYLE IS WHAT SETS IT APART FROM MANY HOTELS THAT ALL JUST LOOK THE SAME.

Unique Quality: THE UNIQUE QUALITIES OF THE GRACE IS ITS HISTORY..THE HOTEL USED TO BE THE HOME OF GRACE BROTHERS DEPARTMENT STORE AND WHEN IT WAS TURNED INTO A HOTEL A LOT OF THE ORIGINAL NEO GOTHIC FEATURES WERE SAVED AND GO TO MAKE UP THE UNIQUE FEELING THAT THE GRACE IS FAMOUS FOR..AND WHAT MAKES THIS HOTEL A PLEASURE TO STAY IN.
I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT WE WILL RETURN TO SYDNEY AND THE GRACE TIME AND TIME AGAIN..ENJOY YOUR STAY...WE DID.

    Great Boutique Hotel

    by

We stayed at another hotel...but wanted to check out this one...b/c it was so inexpensive on the internet. We love boutique hotels...and we thought this was an excellent find. It has just been refurbished...and the rooms are suave. And the location is very convenient to everything. We'll be stayin there next time!

  • Nice Hotel in CBD

    by

I booked this hotel using wotif.com when I was in Australia last year. As I'd left it to the very last minute all they had left was an executive room at A$40 per night more than the standard room price. This was for the first night, the second night we were able to downgrade. The room was very large and airy and exceptionally clean. The beds comfortable and clean bed linen and towels daily. The pool on the top floor is VERY small, but the sauna and steam excellent. Service was second to none. When we went to reception on our second day to downgrade the room from executive to standard, the receptionist adjusted our bill accordingly but suggested to avoid upheaval we stayed put in our executive room but at the standard rate! Thank you very much!
As for location, it is about 10 to 15 minutes walk to Circular Quay and the ferries and 2 minutes to the shops! I'd recommend it!

More about Grace Hotel Sydney

A beautiful and enjoyable place

by TripAdvisor Member WJL1

I have stayed at the Grace Hotel on 3 occasions now, the most recent being in early August. The Hotel is very beautiful and stately. The rooms have always been clean and attractive with decent sized Queen (or King?) sized beds. I've never had any problems with noise, either from the street or other rooms.

The front desk has always been efficient and friendly and the concierge is more than happy to hold luggage for those checking out.

The buffet breakfasts are just delish and the Omelette Man is friendly and cooks the most fabulous omelettes!

The only minor drawback could potentially be the location: it is proximate to the business district (which is great) but there weren't many restaurants or places to eat nearby. However, Chinatown is perhaps a brisk 20 minute walk away and Circular Quay even closer.

I would definitely recommend the Grace Hotel for anyone wanting a comfortable, beautiful hotel with a feeling of safety and security (no seediness in this area).

Great Hotel and Central

by TripAdvisor Member SamirJo

We (wife and I ) stayed at the Grace for 3 nights during July. The hotel was very helpful with any requirements before we arrived and any questions we had. All workers there were very friendly and polite.
The room we had a KING SIZE bed type was very clean and in great condition. The only small complain was the shower curtain was ripped and the bathroom floor can be very slippery so ensure you put a towel on there before getting out of the shower.
The hotel is central to all locations like Darling Harbour 5 min walk, George St ( shops ) 2 min walk, Martin Place 5 min walk, Cirqualar Quay 7 min walk.
The other complaint was that the conceirge was to organise a mini bus for 11 people at 5:30pm and a mix up with the taxi company we didnt get one to 6:15pm. But the conceirge wery very helpful and were trying there best so i dont really blame the hotel staff for this.
PJ Obriens is on gorund floor and we had a meal there for lunch and a drink and is very quiet during week at lunch time.
Also a number of other places to eat in and around the Grace Hotel with the wonderful KRISPY KREME at No 4 York St. Yummy with us eating doughnuts every morning... You gotta have some they are fantastic..
Overall a wonderful experience and i would recommend to everybody looking for a reasonable price hotel that is central. We got the winter weekend special so normally it is a little pricy but for Sydney what do you expect.
Sam.

Centrally located Art Deco beauty

by TripAdvisor Member Reg_M

I choose hotels primarily on their central location and the Grace Hotel is right in the centre of the CBD, being only one block away from the big department store Myers.

As soon as you walk into the Art Deco lobby you are captivated by its atmosphere and the feeling of pleasure continues as you experience one of the nicest king size beds in a spotless room that you will encounter.

From this central base we shopped at the CBD shops and returned laden with our purchases. We then swung through Chinatown for a cheap meal at Superbowl in Dixon St and the Star City Casino just across the Pyrmont Bridge for a little flutter.

When we felt tired there was a range of dining options in-house: a deli serving fresh coffee on the ground floor, a buffet for a full breakfast or a restaurant so that you did not have to go out.

All in all it was a great experience and I can definitely recommend it.

Great Location

by A TripAdvisor Member

Had a good stay at the Grace. The rooms are very nice with good house keeping standards. Our room was quiet. We found it a perfect central location and on the whole the staff was good. When we checked in the clerk mention we got a really good deal as we had booked online. Kind of felt like she thought we did not need the same quality of service or something. The attendent in the health club was totaly un-friendly not what I would expect from a hotel of this level. However when we checked out the gal let us have a late check out and was very nice. A hotel is only as good as its staff. On the whole I would stay here again.

Super 14 final

by kirstylm

Hi,

I'm visiting here from SA and trying to find a pub that would be showing the Super14 final this Saturday - the game only starts at 11pm. Preferably a Saffa pub if there is one here but not too fussy. I'm staying in North Sydney so the closer the better.

Thanks :-)

Re: Super 14 final

by aYankinSyd

Couple of options (but I am not sure what a Saffa is)

In Neutral Bay, The Oaks would be showing it for sure...or closer to N Syd is The Commodore.

Or a short train ride over the bridge, get off at Wynyard and you could watch it at James Squires Ale House at King St Wharf, or also The Wallaby Bar in Darling Harbour.

Also in the Grace Hotel, there is an Irish pub that has a huuuuuuuge screen; I forgot the name of the bar, but it's a pretty good sports venue.

All these spots can be google'd for address, etc...have fun!

Every Pub you see will have the Rugby on, try The Oaks Hotel.

Great atmosphere.

Cheers.

Hey there,

Saffa I think means "South African". Is that right?

Great tips above, so plenty to choose. The Crows Nest Hotel will definately show it too (very close to North Sydney). The choice is yours! ;)

Joseph.

Yip, "Saffa" just means South African! We did end up watching the rugby at The Oaks - very cool place! Now I'm heading back out to Sydney for 2 months in Sept (rugby world cup time!!) so will definitely be looking at some of the other places you all mentioned!
Thanks again :-)
