Great Location

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 30, 2014

If I were to pick a single hotel in Sydney as a favourite The Grace Hotel would be it.

It has a prime city centre location, a couple of hundred metres walk from Town Hall and Pitt Street Mall and about 10-15 minutes from Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and Chinatown. You can't get more central than this.

The rooms are modern and of generous proportions as are the comfortable beds. The rooms are clean, quiet and well equipped, amenities wise, and while the hotel is popular it never appears crowded - I have never had to wait more than a few minutes at either check-in or check-out.

For those so inclined, the hotel has a rooftop fitness centre with a small indoor swimming pool and a sauna.

The one thing you do have to watch for with the Grace is price. At times it is quite expensive (though what hotel in Sydney isn’t) and better value may be available elsewhere. Compare prices before you stay. The Grace often offers good specials. Typically you can get a much better rate for this hotel by booking via the hotel’s website than you can on other websites.

Also, if you are looking for a room with a harbor view or indeed any view other than neighbouring buildings then the Grace is not for you. This is the compromise for the central location of the hotel.

I have never eaten here so can’t comment on the food though I can recommend the Irish bar!

Staff are friendly, extremely helpful and unobtrusive.

For me one of the nicest things about this hotel is the building itself - a 1920's Neo-Gothic building with a delightful art deco interior (public areas). These of course can be enjoyed even if you don’t stay at the hotel so do drop by for a look if you are staying elsewhere.

Unique Quality: Beautiful building right in the heart of the city.

Directions: Easy walk from Town Hall Station if you come into the city by train.

NEO GOTHIC WITH A TOUCH OF GRACE

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 31, 2007

WE FIRST STAYED IN THE GRACE BACK IN FEB 2006 ON OUR FIRST TRIP TO AUSTRALIA,
WE WERE VERY HAPPY WITH OUR STAY THAT WHEN WE RETURNED TO SYDNEY IN MARCH 2007 WE HAD NO PROBLEM IN MAKING THE GRACE OUR SYDNEY HOTEL OF CHOICE.
THE GRACE IS RIGHT IN THE CENTRE OF THE SYDNEY CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT AND ONLY A FIVE MINUTE WALK FROM DARLING HARBOUR AND COCKLE BAY WHERE YOU WILL FIND NO SHORTAGE OF RESTAURANTS TO CHOOSE FROM, PLUS WYNYARD METRO STATION IS ALSO ONLY A FEW BLOCKS AWAY. AND FOR SHOPPING THE QUEEN VICTORIA BUILDING WITH ITS 200 STORES IS ALSO CLOSE AT HAND. WE FOUND THE ROOMS AT THE GRACE TO BE VERY SPACIOUS AND CLEAN AND VERY COMFORTABLE, PLUS THE BATHROOM IS ALSO A GOOD SIZE. THE HOTEL HAS SEVERAL NICE RESTAURANTS SUCH AS THE GRACE CAFE AND THE VERY FANCY NEO RESRAURANT..AND NOT FORGETTING PJ O'BRIENS IRISH BAR, A GREAT PLACE TO CATCH UP ON ALL THE SPORTS NEWS AND ENJOY A COLD GUINNESS.
ALL IN ALL THE GRACE IS A LOVELY PLACE TO CALL YOUR HOME WHILE YOUR STAYING IN SYDNEY, THE COMFORT THAT IS OFFERS IN ITS NEO GOTHIC STYLE IS WHAT SETS IT APART FROM MANY HOTELS THAT ALL JUST LOOK THE SAME.

Unique Quality: THE UNIQUE QUALITIES OF THE GRACE IS ITS HISTORY..THE HOTEL USED TO BE THE HOME OF GRACE BROTHERS DEPARTMENT STORE AND WHEN IT WAS TURNED INTO A HOTEL A LOT OF THE ORIGINAL NEO GOTHIC FEATURES WERE SAVED AND GO TO MAKE UP THE UNIQUE FEELING THAT THE GRACE IS FAMOUS FOR..AND WHAT MAKES THIS HOTEL A PLEASURE TO STAY IN.
I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT WE WILL RETURN TO SYDNEY AND THE GRACE TIME AND TIME AGAIN..ENJOY YOUR STAY...WE DID.

Great Boutique Hotel

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 6, 2006

We stayed at another hotel...but wanted to check out this one...b/c it was so inexpensive on the internet. We love boutique hotels...and we thought this was an excellent find. It has just been refurbished...and the rooms are suave. And the location is very convenient to everything. We'll be stayin there next time!

Nice Hotel in CBD

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on November 24, 2003

I booked this hotel using wotif.com when I was in Australia last year. As I'd left it to the very last minute all they had left was an executive room at A$40 per night more than the standard room price. This was for the first night, the second night we were able to downgrade. The room was very large and airy and exceptionally clean. The beds comfortable and clean bed linen and towels daily. The pool on the top floor is VERY small, but the sauna and steam excellent. Service was second to none. When we went to reception on our second day to downgrade the room from executive to standard, the receptionist adjusted our bill accordingly but suggested to avoid upheaval we stayed put in our executive room but at the standard rate! Thank you very much!
As for location, it is about 10 to 15 minutes walk to Circular Quay and the ferries and 2 minutes to the shops! I'd recommend it!

Directions: 10 mins from Circular Quay and 2 minutes from shops
