A nice hotel, but noisy for light sleepers. Late at night, patrons at the German restaurant down the street will keep you awake with drunken beer singing and the garbage trucks will wake you up early in the morning. Also, an expensive hotel based on the conditions above one must endure. Little value, but conveniently situated. Avoid the breakfast at the hotel as it is absurdly expensive--you can do much better at a nearby bakery. This hotel really needs to take the money that they have fleeced from its patrons and install some sound-proof windows.
Great location! The hotel's employees were very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were a bit small, but the bathroom had a cool style. We were upgraded to the superior room, which means we got a sitting area with a non-functioning fireplace. Very quaint. We could walk to the bridge, Circular Quay, the Opera House, etc. It was expensive, but the location and history was worth it. Good (but expensive) breakfast in the morning.
The building was originally built by convicts as the first hospital.
