Value for money
Over all this is a good value for money Hotel. The rooms are a little small although they are clean and comfortable. If you are heading to sydney and want a place that is clean, central and value for money this is the place

The room is small but the location is perfect.Minutes to Darling Harbour and Chinatown
Unique Quality: Nice City view
I still haven't figured out whether or not I liked this hotel...
Pros:
- Well located, near train stations and monorail stations, shops - including internet cafes, and is kind of walking distance from from Quay Harbour
- Breakfast is good, its quite cheap - UK£5 for a buffet.
Cons:
- You can only check in at 2, something which the staff conveniently forget to mention!
- Staff weren't very friendly or helpful when we wanted to book a tour.
- No faciltities - swimming pool, gym etc
Even though there is an even amount of pros and cons, I think I would recommend this place, BUT only if you wanted to get up in the morning, eat and sightsee, without asking anything of hotel staff!!!
Unique Quality: The main unique quality is the location, as it is walking distance from Chinatown and Paddy's market.
The view isn't bad either!

This hotel is perfect if you are staying in Sydney for a short time. Long term, you may not want to. Rooms are small, but clean. Hotel is walking distance to mostly everything in city centre. Only thing we were put off by was funny smell in bathroom and we couldn't change temperature of air con in room. Carpets in certain areas of hotel need upgrading also. But otherwise, staff were friendly and helpful.
Even though staff were polite and helpful i do not recommend this hotel for a few days stay or more simply because the room is pretty small, you can hear every car drive past on the busy street outside even though i was on the 12th floor, the bed was very hard to sleep on and the pillows were lumpy. You could also hear through the walls and in the morning you could hear staff vacumming when we were trying to sleep in. We were just staying there overnight while we were out clubbing and being drunk is the only reason i was probably able to sleep otherwise the noise outside probably would of kept me awake as well as the lack of softness to the bed. The shower was small and the room was reasonably clean but in desperate need of renovation. It seemed bits and pieces of the room were falling apart. The hotel is good in location because its close to everything. My friend who has stayed at the Ibis hotel at darling harbour said it was good so must just be this particular one!
We booked this hotel directly on their website for a fantastic rate of AUD59/nt when everywhere else had the same hotel for over $100! The location was great in the city, heaps of food places close by, supermarket across the road and walking distance to most things in Sydney.
The room is really just a typical hotel room with queen bed, small desk & cupboard & smallish bathroom. Fine for a short stay. Reception staff were always polite & helpful. The only problems were with housekeeping - when we checked in we had dirty drinking glasses in the room & no toilet paper - but these were quickly fixed with a phone call to reception.
If you're looking to stay here make sure you have a look at the rates on the website direct!
I stayed here for a few days, followed by another day in late January 2008.
This is a fairly basic Hotel in a good Location. I wandered back a few times late at night and felt safe. (Try wandering through Kings Cross late at night for an interesting experience)
Didn't use the Restaurant, it was a couple of days in until I realise there was one.
It is right next to a fairly big shopping centre so just went across there for food and supplies.
It has the feel of a converted office block. I would just say it is an average Hotel to stay at for a few days, don't think I would go back after seeing the really nice Hotels down at Darling Harbour.
We stayed in this Hotel for 4 nights in March 2008. The location is good but a little bit dodgy. The room was quite clean and spartan. The service was not exceptional (staff competent but no better), but not bad either. The shower hadn't the curtain, so after a shower the WC/shower was totally flooded. This hotel is really too expensive for what it is and for the service it offer.
Booked thru Accor...so got an OK price...$AU126.00...rang them first and was told parking was available, but they neglected to mentioned it was in a parking station a block away....anyway....they have a deal with the parking station so overnight it was only $25.00...still if I'd known I would have gone elsewhere as I'd read the reviews here before I booked...the other reviews are accurate....its a basic hotel...clean, small rooms...staff not over helpful but not rude...it's in Chinatown so interesting...and plenty of shops around...close to everything....would I stay there again....nah don't think so.
The name suggests that the hotel is IN the World Square, but in fact it is across the rod in Pitt St, (next door to Civic Hotel).
Once i found it, the welcome was warm and easy.
The rooms are typical IBIS rooms, small but very clean and tidy. The bathroom was also very clean.
I had the Winter special which also included Buffett breakfast. The breakfast is on the second floor, and is bright and airy. While i was there some 100+ american kids were there, but there was little or no noise. th rooms were soundproof and the kids were well behaved.
The hotel is close to lots of little resturants and cafes, and the Hotel Civic is just nest door. A short walk to Town Hall Station (800-900 mts)
I would like to hear from people who have stayed at the IBIS World Square Sydney Australia. As an Australian I would hate to think that the ordeal I went through there was common place & this was your first introduction to our country. I'd like to assure overseas visitors that if you had similar treatment to me, that in no way does that reflect the overall attitude to visitors in our hospitality industry. I personally have never encountered such abysmal service however this maybe an isolated incident, of this I hope but doubt.
I would really appreciate your feedback, either good or bad. I hope you have a great holiday.
Many thanks
Graeme
I've not been to Australia yet but from all I read, and from Australians I met in my work and travelling, and a lot from craic's writing, I think of it as very hospitable.
Ibis..? hm, I've only seen them in France and I seem to recall that François Meignant didn't like one of them (Ch.deGaulle Airport?) Never stayed in one but would only expect the basics. If I went there, I'd expect low prices, not much more. But basic courtesy should be included, whatever the rates. With that, I could do without the in-wall hair-dryer etc. :-)
My friend and I went a couple of years for a girls weekend ago and still laugh about how bad the place was.
Many thanks for your reply, I was just thinking if there was a lower level than crap lol. I sincerely believe they wouldn't have cared if we died overnight, except for the paper work they'd have to do.
I would hate people to think that this is the norm for Australia, it's not, far from it.
Once again thanks & merry xmas.
Graeme
Thanks for your reply.
It won hands down as the worst place I'd ever stayed in, a simple request was like pulling teeth & that was from the front desk right to the top in France when I complained. They will never get any of my money again & from the feedback I'm getting from other places, they are renowned for not giving a damn. I'm glad I'm not an investor in Accor because this sort of service can only be dealt out for so long.
Cheers
Grae
Thanks for your reply.
What you have said is pretty well the norm from feedback I've got back from here & other sites. The room wasn't bad but the service was sub standard, rude, even lies & generally couldn't give a damn. Bazil Fawlty would have been proud of them.
