Explore the city by walking...

Explore the city by walking around... even if it causes aching feet... see Oxford Street, see Royal Botanical Garden (but don't forget to leave before it closes down... I had to be picked up by one of the park-rangers, shame on me...) Nothing special.... just the feeling I get everytime I remember my first visit to the city and to Australia generally

Kangaroos
by Gypsystravels
Kangaroos were another creature I wanted to see while in Australia, but in Sydney, the only experience you will have with them is here in Taronga Zoo.
Seeing the Kangaroos in their native land was nice, I guess if I wanted to see one in the wild, I'd have to travel to the "outback".
All in all, it was fun seeing them hop around and finding a comfortable spot to lay in.
Try the local papers...

You can check out the local (and Australian national, and international) news by reading the excellent Sydney Morning Herald. You can find the online edition at www.smh.com.au. These days, you have to register to get access to the website, but it's free and well worth doing if you are interested in Australian news. Sadly it doesn't publish on Sundays - if there's one thing that Sydney lacked on my visits there it is was decent Sunday newspaper. However, it looks as if the Sunday sister paper to the SMH, the Sun-Herald, may be better than it used to be...
The tabloid rival to the SMH is the Daily Telegraph - you can find it online at www.dailytelegraph.com.au.
NSW Waratahs Rugby
by OnTheRoadGoombah
I became fascinated with Rugby five years ago when I first visited Australia. I told myself that I would attend a match because the fans watching in pubs were very rowdy and it looked like a fun and exciting game to watch in person.
Finally this year, I attended my first match -- The NSW Waratahs versus the Hurricanes. I got there early and was able to purchase my ticket in Cat 1 seats -- although I think you could buy a cheaper seat and still have a great time.
I was not disappointed. The game was fun and exciing to watch and the crowd, while loud, was surprisingly well-behaved. I am not sure what I expected, but thought that all that testosterone and beer would lead to some bad behavior, but it didn't. It may have helped that the home team won.
A family can go here and enjoy the game. To watch the game, all you need is a spare liver.
