Sydney hotel

The location okay..Bus stops are just below the hotel. It was more of a student and university area..The room was big and clean.Staff was very good.Very friendly and helpful. However they some how never had adapters to give us because they were apparently out of them.SO charging the camera and the cell phone was a tad difficult.

Unique Quality: Breakfast buffet had a good spread and variety.

Great hotel

I really liked this hotel. Great rooms, comfortable beds, friendly and helpful staff, wonderful breakfast buffet in the morning. The only possible downside was the location. If you plan to stay here, you better either like walking or have a transportation plan in place, as its quite a walk from the Harbour.

A big hotel but very friendly

We wanted to stay near Chinatown and also see a show on this trip. The Mercure is five minutes from great Chinese food (Golden Century has the best Salt and Pepper squid) and just a short stroll from the Capitol Theatre. For a big hotel (500 + rooms) all the staff were very nice - the housmaid even gave us a cheery good morning!

Unique Quality: Being next to Central Station this made getting around Sydney really easy as every form of transport hubs there - we even caught the light rail to Star City Casino. Roof top pool and gym is very nice although no outdoor area to sunbake.

Hotel on Broadway

Right in the transportation hub of Sydney where buses and trains junctions meet. This is a typical business hotel with all the amenities that you'd need.

Unique Quality: The closeness to Central Station and bus terminals make this hotel an ideal place to station yourself if you do not have a private vehicle.

Convenient.

I've stayed here on several occasions when going to sydney for concerts etc. The rooms are reasonably priced in comparison to others, and you get breakfast included. (although the breakfast isnt great). The rooms are simple, but clean and comfortable.

Unique Quality: Almost directly opposite Central Station, it is a bit of a hike to get anywhere you really need to be, such as shopping, entertainment etc.

For me its more a case of budget over location or location over budget. I choose the former, and you get what you pay for.

More about Mercure Hotel Sydney

Mercure Sydney a Great Surprise

by A TripAdvisor Member

We got a mad rate during Mercure's Summer sale for $50 a night. For this price we expected very little but we were incredibly surprised by how nice the Mercure was. Our room was big, bright and very modern. We had a great view of Railway Square (1 minute walk away to all trains and buses) and the room was very quiet and super clean. The bathroom was a good size as was the bed.

The staff at Reception were very helpful and friendly and they arranged for my parents who were also staying to be put in the room next to us.

Whilst the hotel is at the opposite end of George Street to the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, it is still only a 10-15min easy bus or train ride there. The hotel is also close to Chinatown (5-10 minute walk) and only a bit further to Darling Harbour / Cockle Bay (20 min walk). The University of Sydney is also about a 15 min walk away.

The hotel bar seemed very lively during Happy Hour everyday we were there (with $3 schooners). We would definately stay there again and would happily pay more.

High quality, value for money city hotel

by TripAdvisor Member honung

We stayed here over New Year, their busiest period, with no problems at all. The room and hotel was nicely decorated in a modern style, the staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was huge and great (though not included in the room rate, it was $15 each) and it was in good location. It is above average for a large city hotel.

Good location

Circular Quay & Darling Harbour are both walkable from the hotel but are a fair distance. However, the Mercure is just a few steps from the railway station & bus stops, so getting around is no problem at all.
Both times I stayed at this hotel, I arrived at about 7am which was of course way before the standard time for check in. However, the reception staff were most helpful in finding me an available room both times.
The food & drink are both reasonably priced and of a good standard.
The rooms are a good size & well equipped.
It will always be my first choice in Syndey

Good location

This was our second stay in this hotel having been here in 2000. We arrived early but couldn't check into our room. It was ready but they said it needed to be checked by the supervisor. This seeemed to take about 2 hours to accomplish. We were offered a coffee in the lounge while we waited and the waiter took about 20 minutes to bring our coffee even though we were the only ones in the lounge and he was behind the bar the whole time. Other than that, our stay was very pleasant. Our room was good and we found the city's transportation system to be excellent as usual.

Just not right

by TripAdvisor Member mattmat14

Not enough staff on front desk. Very busy check-in. Room key (card) didn't work. Back to the queue. New room key didn't work. Back to the queue. Promised that when we returned (from a walk) it will work. It didn't. Asked to be moved to another room - 'no' as hotel was full. Rang some friends and decided to stay at their place.....so requested we check out at no charge.....surprise surpirse, a room was available (which had a working key card). So we were lied to.

Double beds are smaller than the average double bed.....looked like a king single.

Just a big let down.
