A good alternative vs hotel/B&B

I got a great deal on the Meriton website. An apartment was a good option vs B&B or hotel, no breakfast but who cares... you get your own kitchen, laundry so no timetable to eat or to wash... Freedom and independence ;-)

A real good choice and central location. At check-in time, the efficient staff upgrade my 1 bedroom apartment booking for a 2 bedroom + 2 bathroom apartment with terrace for free! A nice 4 stars stay in my large modern and convenient flat (83m2). Cleaning/bed was done everyday and nothing to complain.

A large indoor swimming pool, a whirpool, a sauna and a fitness room are available for all guests.

Little drawbacks : WIFI access is not free and soundproof windows could be improved.

Unique Quality:

A great location to explore Sydney. The lively George Street is next door, 5 minutes on foot to/from Central station/Darling Harbour/China Town, 25 minutes to/from Circular Quay/Opera House/The Rocks.

Meriton Kent Street Serviced Apartments

Our two-bedroom Meriton Kent Street apartment was perfect for us, and the location near Town Hall offered a vast array of dining, grocery and transportation options. There was even a Starbucks the next building over; I was thrilled! Our view of Darling Harbour and the city skyline was stellar, especially during the two spectacular thunderstorms that rolled through during our stay. They provided everything we needed, it all worked properly, and we were serviced well. Don't hope for early check-in, however; we didn't get it!

Top Spot for family Sydney Visit

We chose a two bedroom serviced apartment at the Meriton Kent Street building for a family break in Sydney. As well as twin beds in each room there was a fold out sofa lounge to accommodate an extra person for one night.
The apartment featured two bathrooms and a fully equipped laundry and kitchen.
The quality of fit-out was superb. Carpets, tiles, bench tops and furniture were less than two years old and in immaculate condition.
The lifts (elevators) are numerous and very fast.
We were impressed by security arrangements. You are give two electronic keys one for the room and one for the lifts and front door. Security staff are on duty all night.
The service was excellent. Front desk staff were friendly and efficient. Servicing of rooms was done daily.
After a late checkout (free up until midday) we left our luggage in supervised rooms until late afternoon flights. This was handled very efficiently also.

Unique Quality: The Kent Street amenity is well located. We chose it because it had good public transport options. Buses and monorail are close by. Walking is an option to gain access to the CBD , the Markets & Darling Harbour (less than a kilometer away).

Parking is available if required in the basement at $35 per night.

The range of eating and entertainment options nearby is huge: Everything from 5 dollar Spanish Tapas to one of the top ten restaurants in the world (Tetsuya's Restaurant, 529 Kent Street).
We opted to eat at the pub across the road and a Spanish Restaurant nearby. We enjoyed nightcaps of Pedro Ximenez at the Spanish Club around the corner.

How many more hotels in Sydney am I going to try?

Meriton is a name that will soon be synonymous with serviced apartments in Sydney that verge on the funky, above average comfortable side without being absurdly expensive. Suddenly, Meriton Apartments are everywhere near to the Town Hall. There's aprrox 5-6 new high-rise blocks of Meritons (lower floors offices or shopping malls, rooms higher up).

We experienced a studio apartment at Meriton Kent Street. It was stunning - 19th floor with balcony, marble floors, king size beds, heaps of space, brand new kitchen etc. (not all rooms have balcony). On the lower floors is a pool and spa with a sun terrace that was closed when we were there has they hadn't finished building it!

Unique Quality: Great views over the city (although we were west-facing) to be had from the higher floors. We took advantage of a special offer with wotif - as it was a brand new building, they hadn't quite finished the complex. Only minor things (sunterrace/ spa in the pool area/ basement car park) were to be finished, so introductory price of AUD$165pn was excellent value.

Meriton Kent is in the Spanish quarter of the city - heaps of tapas bars 2 minutes walk - and very close to Chinatown and the World Square monorail. 10 minutes will get you to Centra Station. It's therefore not the most centrally located of hotels in Sydney, but its certainly one of the best apartment hotels I have stayed in. And the foyer/reception area is totally funky.

IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT AND THIS IS THE LOCATION, GREAT PALCE TO STAY.

More about Meriton Kent St.

comfortable choice

by TripAdvisor Member GJW75

The Meriton Kent Street is a comfortable, well located 50+ floor apartment tower near China Town. We were allocated a 49th floor one bedroom apartment which was basically, but adequately, fitted (an arm chair in addition to the sofa would have been appreciated). Kitchen facilities were good, beds comfortable and the view magnificent. One strange twist that may appeal to some travellers is the full length mirror over the bed! Only criyticism is the range of actions that list the penalty payment of 100 Australian dollars - not washing dishes on leaving, loss of plastic room card, accidental activation of smoke alarm in kitchen! It did appear that it was their ambition to gain an extra $100 one way or another!

Great Location, Great Price, Great Staff

by TripAdvisor Member Vinzeph

I stayed at the Meriton Kent during a business trip in Sydney. I booked directly at their website for one-bedroom apartment. When I arrived in the hotel, they upgraded me to a two-bedroom apartment on the higher floors with great view of the Darling Harbour!

The apartment is new and is fully furnished - huge fridge, huge tv, huge rooms, nice bathroom with separate shower and bath, washing machine, dryer, fully furnished kitchen, etc.

The location is in the middle of Sydney, just a short stroll to darling harbour, chinatown, shopping centres, etc. with excellent access to train, buses and taxis.

I mean really, why stay in an expensive hotel with small rooms when you can stay in this wonderful apartment?

Would highly recommend these apartments

Booked through the Meriton website and got a good deal for a 3 night stay for family of four. Kids loved the apts and so did we. Very clean, fresh and modern and with Cable TV and a nice indoor swimming pool/gym the kids were very happy.

Requested a high floor and got it which was great. The apt was tidied each day, given new towels and tea/coffee, shampoo etc replenished. The staff were friendly and helpful including the housekeeping staff, I couldn't fault anything. We arrived early and couldn't check in until 2pm but our bags were stored and with everything so close, went off to explore. The location is excellent.

I would recommend these apartments to anyone and will definitely be staying there on future visits to Sydney.

Very pleased.

A very nice place!! i requested a high floor and also a bath tub for the stuido appartment.. and got neither :( however, they did upgrade us to a 1 bedroom appartment! :) soo no complaints there. A very nicley furnished place with a fully equipped kitchen to match. The pool facilities were also a delight. i definatly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good stay in the city.

Fantastic Stay in Sydney!!!!

by TripAdvisor Member janineskrundz

Our family of 4 spent a wonderful 5 nights at this fabulous property. We had a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment on the 50th floor overlooking the city. These brand new apartments are very spacious, modern and come with a full kitchen. The location can't be beat. We were within walking distance of all major attractions. About 10 minute walk to Darling Harbour and 15 to Circular Quay. The train station is a block away, making getting to and from the airport very easy. A grocery store across the street, and a great selection of restaurants and fast food near these apartments. All in all, it was a great stay in Sydney and these serviced apartments were better than we expected.

Excellent ...but beware the Balcony

Meriton Apartments on Kent street is a newly opened serviced apartment located in the central of Sydney CBD. The apartment has 56 floors in total, with 1~9 being the car park and 10th as the reception, 11~14th as office floor, 15th as the gym, etc and 16~56th as guest rooms.

I booked using my entetainment card and paid $139 a night for a one bedroom apartment. I was in Sydney for a conference at Cockle Bay Wharf ,Darling Harbor.

My check in was quick and efficient and I was warned not to loose my room access card as it will cost me $100 to replace it.
My apartment on the 17th level was modern & clean, and was what I expected from prevoius reviews. Unfortunately when I went out on the Balcony to check the view,a brick wall, the door shut and locked behind me.Luckily I had my mobile phone with me as I then called back home to Adelaide and a friend managed to call reception and in a few minutes Taryn arrived to rescue me, and then pointed out the little notice stuck to the glass next to the door warning about being locked out.

Taryn advised that it is a problem with a few apartments on the lower levels.Taryn offerred to find me another room with a few for my inconvenience. I was upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment on the 54th floor with Fantastic views. Not that I needed two bedrooms with King size beds. You can hook up your laptop to broadband internet but it will cost $5 per hour. A better option is the Internet everywhere cafe downstairs in the adjoing plaza with 200 new PCs, you get a password and logon and pay $2 an hour and you can keep logging on until your credit is used.

I did use the pool but was a bit cold for my liking, the Meriton is within walking distance of the Monorail, town hall and Darling Harbor.

Overal if you can get an apartment on the 54th floor it is well worth it.

I intend to return in Jan 08 with my family and will definately stay at the Meriton.

Once again a special thank you to Taryn for all her assistance during my stay (and rescue).
