What a great location

My partner and I stayed here in July 2005. It is perfectly located i.e. opposite Darling Harbour, walking distance to the CBD, and close to heaps of great restaurants. We were in a Club Room. The view overlooking Darling Harbour was awesome. The window was MASSIVE!

We had dinner at Darling Harbour most nights and one of our FAVOURITE places was Nick's Seafood! OH MY GOODNESS it was amazing. My partner and his mate shared the Seafood Platter. They used their hands and loved it! It was hilarious to see them so happy enjoying their food - with seafood juices running down their arms, they were truly loving it!

Unique Quality: Fantastic buffet breakfast. We were on the Club Floor (the holiday was a present from my sister) and included were canapes and drinks in the evenings - perfect if meeting up with friends.

It might sound expensive but you can get some great deals on discount websites.

A Standard City Hotel

This is one of the better hotel of The Intercontinental Hotel Chain. A service in the restaurant is not the same level as the hotel itself.

Unique Quality: A good location and rooms.

Payment 4 months in advance

Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour for New Year's Eve fireworks. Minimum of 3 days booking, and payment had to be made in full in August, ie 4 months in advance. Hotel could make a killing on the short term money market for that period. Had requested King Bed when we booked in May, ie 8 months earlier however, when we arrived in room, we found only a Queen bed. Reception were initially not interested in m complaint and would not acknowledge that I had booked a King. It was only when I pressed the issue and showed them the printed version of e-mail booking confirmation, they agreed and advised they were unable to offer King as booked, however reluctantly offered buffet breakfasts in lieu. Good view of Darling Harbour, and only 10 mins walk downhill to Sydney Harbour to view fireworks.

In need of a refurbishment

Usually Crowne Plaza branded hotels are nice, but I was disappointed with this one. The fixtures and fittings were very dated and in much need of a refurbishment.

Location, Location, Location..

The Crown Plaza in Darling Harbour, is the perfect place to stay, if you enjoy being spoiled.
Right on the doorstep of the best sites in Sydney, you can walk to most of the Harbour attractions, and enjoy the ultimate in Sydney's nightlife. The service and accommodation is excellent..
Comfort ++.. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Unique Quality: A choice of great views.. to the Harbour, or the bright lights of the city.
Well stocked bar with refreshments and nibbles..

Boring, bland service and noisy

A quick stay and my preferred hotel the Novotel Darling Harbour was fully booked. I like the Darling Harbour area as the city can be pretty quiet at night and I like to explore a bit. Lots to see and do in Darling Harbour and Nicks Seafood Restaurant was great. The hotel is a bit lost and set away from the Harbour although I guess technically it is still in the precinct. Hotel staff were very blasé about being of service and lost a fax at one stage. Nothing really bad; rooms were OK but no views and mine smelled a bit on the first day, just not very startling. Access for cabs was difficult as they are just completing construction of new tunnel in front of the hotel. Don’t remember seeing many smiles.

Unique Quality: Nothing astounding, easy access to Darling Harbour

Great central location

The Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour was within walking distance to the very touristy, Darling Harbour, Chinatown, and Botanical Gardens. So there's a lot to see and do without having to worry about transportation. It was also a short and inexpensive ferry ride away from the other must see tourist spot, the Rocks, close to the the Sydney Opera House (but you can actually walk it if you're willing for about 20-25 minutes).

Right across the street is a 24-hour convenience store where you can load up on drinks and snacks so you don't have to pay for the mini-bar. That store also has internet access for $2/hour.

Besides location, the Concierge service was AWESOME, very helpful, and full of information. The whole staff was cool.

Unique Quality: Never used the facilites, but the hotel did have a gym, but not sure about a pool. Lots of construction going on, so the view is obscured by contruction equipment, but what it lacks in views, it more than makes up for in customer service and location.

Also, this hotel looks like it's used by a lot of business people, so if you're allergic to suits and tie, then this place may not be for you because you'll see a lot of "business types," but my friends and I went in, backpack, jeans and all, and no one blinked an eye or gave us a disapproving look.

Good central location.

This would be a three and a half star hotel which was opened, as a Parkroyal, about 12 or 13 years ago.
Comfortable, normal size hotel rooms, standard hotel decor etc. One restaurant for breakfast/lunch/dinner, plus two bars. Service good without being exceptional, staff friendly and laid-back.

Unique Quality: The big plus in its favour is its location. There are many alternative hotels close by, some better, some not as good. It's on the city side of Darling Harbour, so it's an easy walk to the attractions of Darling Harbour itself, to Chinatown and to the Opera House and harbour.

The Crown Plaza in Darling Harbour Sydney, is a lovely hotel to stay at. Conveniently located if you are looking to be close to all the Harbour attractions.. Walking distance to many of these attractions, good restaurants, and nightlife. Excellent service, all the emenities one would expect in a hotel of this quality.

pleasant stay

by TripAdvisor Member veevey

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour in late June 2006. It was a nice pleasant visit to Sydney for some R+R after a conference out of town.

Check in went very smoothly, with the front desk staff being very helpful and accomodating. I stayed in a 3rd floor city view room, which unfortunately overlooked the motorway. Surprisingly I didn't find it noisy at all.

The room was very comfortable, and clean, and I particularly liked the nice bathroom.

I found the only negative thing about my stay was the poor food selection on the room service menu. The late-night food was poorly presented and not at all appetising. It was quite disappointing.

Overall a good stay. Very close to Darling Harbour which you can access from a foot bridge across the road, and only a short walk for some awesome shopping. I'll stay there again, but will avoid the hotel food at all costs.
