Fantastic and Friendly!

Punt Hill North Shore Sydney was an excellent choice for our first time in the city. The staff were very friendly, accommodating, and resourceful. The front of house staff were very knowledgeable about the city and gave us a very friendly Aussie welcome! The rooms were bright, cheery, and clean. The efficiency unit was excellent for our week stay and the shuttle bus was a great service!

Blue Mountains _ guided tour or independent?

by imolinar

I am trying to figure out if we should go on our own to Blue mountains, take the train in Sydney and then the trolley bus around?, or take the Oz Trek Adventure Tour which is reasonable priced only 55 dollars. Any recommendations please?. I am not a big fan of tours, but they take you also to the featherdale park and Olympic stadium which is a plus. Any reviews of this company?. Thank you

Train to Katoomba costs $15.60, Trolley tour costs $20. If entry into featherdale is included in your tour price it might be worth it.

Explorer link tickets cost 46.50 and include train and a hop on hop of bus service in Katoomba

Hope this helps

I never mind doing a day tour if time is limited and particularly in a place I do not know. It gives you an idea of what there is to see and then if time permits you can go back another day.
Unless you have a car I always think Australia is not the easiest place to explore and besides you may be used to driving on a different side of the road.

We did a tour recently in Adelaide(South Australia) and met visitors from other parts of the world which made it very enjoyable.

Your tour sounds like a good deal, and I think you would enjoy both Featherdale park and the Olympic stadium.
Otherwise, the trolley tour and train is a good one to do.

I too am not a fan of big tours, but like another postersaid, a day tour is a good idea. I think using a day tour is the most efficient use of time. you don't have to figure out how to get from one mode of transport to the other or worry if you're heading in the right direction, or miss something because you didnt plan the itinerary in the right order. I say take the Oz Tek tour. They are a very reputable company here in Oz and I agree that the price is very reasonable.

the real blue mountains must be seen by doing bushwalks. There are some truley spectacular ones from easy, mediun and hard. Then you get a real sense of the place. Places you would not want to miss are the Megalong valley ( the drive down is so beautiful) and have scones and tea at the tea rooms there. Also, as beautiful as Echo Point is Govett's Leap in Blackheath overlooking Australia's answer to the Grand Canyon; The gross valley. Both these lookouts are gorgeous at dusk when the blue mountains actually look blue. Mt Wilson on the other side of the Gross valley is also beautiful. A car would give you the freedom to visit more spots and do bushwalks. Sublime point is also a beautiful lookout. The trolley bus does stop at some good spots but also takes you to some touristy places. if it's natural scenery and beauty you want, maybe get a car for at least one day.

Travel Tips for Sydney

Trading Hours

by islandhopping

One of the most important thing that travellers to Sydney should remember is that after 6pm things tend to close down. The general trading hours are between 9am and 6pm for retail shops/malls/shopping centres. Banks open at 9/9:30am and close at 4:30/5pm. So whatever your planning to do in Sydney, it is always good to check the opening/closing times. Off course there are exceptions to this rule. Some places will stay open longer and Thursday is late night shopping day where things will close around 9pm. So if hanging out in a pub/club is not for you, the choice of activities after dark can be limited.

There are so many things to choose from, but one that I always recommend is a visit to the Paddington Market on Oxford Street(not to be confused with Paddy's Market). The market is on Saturdays (between 10am and 4pm)and is filled with locally made clothing, jewellery, furniture, just all sorts of stuff. Nothing cheesy! There was also live entertainment and great food (try the 'glory rolls'). The friendly and laid back nature of the Australian people and the cleanliness and excitement of Sydney.

Bondi

by beachboy

Bondi, the most well known Sydney's city beach, is located at the eastern suburb of the city. The beach is roughly 1 km long, enclosed by north and south headlands. Away from the beach there are numerous cafes and restaurants, as well as hostels, hotels, a great variety of shops, and even a small golf course. If you're lucky, you may bump into Hollywood's celebrities sun bathing on the beach.

Visit the high Victorian-era architecture Town Hall, with one of the most striking interiors in Australia. This building was completed for Sydney's centenary in 1888. The Town Hall contains an 8000-pipe organ and is one of the largest in the world. Free lunchtime concerts featuring the mighty organ are held regularly. See for more pictures in the
