york swiss apartments

by wini62

I have booked a week at the York Swiss Apartments in August thru bookings.com.
However this hotel is no longer available thru any discount website and the emails to the hotel are not reaching the hotel. Bookings .com assure me my booking is safe but cannot explain why they are no longer advertising the hotel. Can anyone enlighten me? What is this place like? Should I change my booking to a different apartment.

Booking.com is a reliable site. It is possible that the hotel has removed itself from booking.com (to which they would pay a fee) and thus it is no longer on the site even though prior bookings are being honoured.

The hotel is still listed on lots of other agency sites.

Have you emailed restysb@swiss-belhotel.com which is the contact given on the hotel website?

Hi

I have just called the reservations manager at York Apartments- she assures me that booking can be made directly with them at:

http://www.theyorkapartments.com.au/

She also say sthay the rate is the same as with Bookings.com.

Apparently the Bookings.com is having a problem with their website.

Travel Tips for Sydney

Things to do when there's limited $$$

by dmirebella

Who needs cash? There are plenty of things to do should one be on a tight budget as I was!!

1. Check out the buskers and head to Darling Harbour where you can watch street performers and free concerts by the water's edge.

Take a ferry to Manly beach

by austarman

If you have Children or you just enjoy a relaxing day out on the water, then a Ferry ride from Circular Quay to Manly is a relaxing weekend activity.
The Ferry's are quite big safe and comfortable now so there is no need to worry whatever the weather might be like. It takes about 30 minutes or so to cross and on the way you get some fantastic harbour views.
The ferry passes the Sydney Opera house and gives you a great opportunity for some excellent harbour bridge photo's too.
Once you get to Manly there are plenty of shops to look at as well as many beach-side bars and restaurants.
There is a great swimming or surfing beach plus a "You Beaut" ocean-side walkway that goes for about 2kms around to Shelley beach.

Kangaroos

Animals encounters are a must do when in Sydney; especially getting up close and personal with Kangaroos. Liz and I enjoyed visited two Animal Parks: Featherdale and Symbio. Both parks allowed guests to feed the Kangaroos which was awesome. The Kangaroos were very tame and hoped right over to get fed. We were able to pet them and experience their soft fur. SHOP! SHOP!! SHOP!

The BEST time to come is just after Christmas when there's a MAJOR Stocktake Sale on... (it's usually a day or 2 after Christmas). You can get really lovely stuffs at great discounts. Go early in the morning if you want to get the best buys!! And that's me on New Year's Day here in Sydney.

You may also like to check out the Sunday flea market here at The Rocks. They also have lovely stuffs on sale. For me, some of my best clothings are bought here at really dirt-cheap prices. Hit on Aussie brands like Ken Done, Collette Dinnigan, Lisa Ho, Charlie Brown, Country Road, Saba etc.

For cheaper clothings, you may like to check out Cue, Portman's, Sportsgirl (I love this brand!!) etc.

Other lovely places to shop include the QVB (that stands for Queen Victoria Building) and Strand Arcade. Now, I hope I've at least convinced you to book your flight to... Sydney?!

Rain gear

by amyhenderson

Contrary to popular belief, it does rain in Australia - OK, so I'm exaggerating a little. But the fact is, that when it does rain here, it's usually a very heavy down-pour. In Australia we refer to this heavy rain as "it's raining cats and dogs!" so make sure you bring some wet weather gear so that you don't get completely & totally soaked. It's often not the kind of rain (like in London) that you can easily walk through without getting too wet.

Light rain-jacket, umbrella & sneakers or good grip shoes. When the pavements get wet here, some of them get very slippery!
