Great location for Convention Center
by ipguy
I stayed in the Star City Hotel and casino from April 27-30 while attending a business convention at the Sysdney Convention Center in Darling Harbor. The accomodations were very comfy. The staff warm and friendly. Made a weary business traveler feel at home. The hotel was quiet and very well kept. I didnt eat in any of the cafe's, but instead rode the Monorail system around the city and got off at each stop to catch the neighborhood flavors. I found the Chinatown stop, Paddy's market and surrounding blocks to be to mike liking. I had very good noodles in Chinatown.
I did most tourist things, I rode a jet boat from Darling Harbour to Circular Quay. I got off at CQ and took in the Sydney Opera House.
The weather was perfect, warm and sunny. Low humidity despite being on the water.
Unique Quality: Great transport system in the metro area, excellent food and great views.
Directions: Darling Harbour

Close to Everything
by grantravel
We enjoyed our stay here, but we didn't spend that much time inside the casino. We just loved the convenience of how close it was to Darling Harbour and the City.
We did see the Rocky Horror Picture Show while we were there, which was a really great show!
There are plenty of restaurants to choose from inside the casino.

Not the brightest star in the city
by joandarcy
We stayed at Star City for 4 nights, made our bookings weeks earlier. We informed them that our flights would arrived at 10am, therefore we needed to be checked in earlier (normal check-in is 3pm).
As we arrived, the registration officer told us that we could not check-in immediately due to all the rooms were fully occupied. She told us to return at 3pm for check-in.
We understood the procedure.. So, with exhaustion, we went touring at the Rocks/Circular Quay to kill time.
Returned at 3pm to the hotel to check-in, and yet the officer told us that there's no room vacant for us.. We waited patiently at the lobby....
A lot of people walked in and out, went to the counter with their bags.. filled in some forms, smiled and thanked the lady! ???? !! What was going on???
We couldnt wait no longer! We asked if its really full-house, and she said yes.. but still, people are coming in-and-out.. accepting keys and all that! Till Mike blew up and scolded the officer that we have waited for 6 hours and no room... We just made the fuss out of it.. until another officer came, apologised and gave us a room key!.. ??? We were too tired to argue, headed to the hotel room and Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
I recalled, with us there were also this old CHinese couple, in the same situation as us..
Sad, but true..
Unique Quality: The place for gamblers .. wasnt our choice to stay in this hotel.. ;) still, was convienient to go around the city!
Directions: Very close to Darling Harbour, walking distance for 10 mins

Light Rail travel in Sydney
by thescene
The Metro Light Rail (MLR) is the only light rail service in Sydney. Stretching from Central Station to Lillyfield the whole line stretches for roughly 7 kilometers. Some of the attractions that are accessible via the MLR are the Sydney Fish Market, Star City, Sydney Convention Center and Darling Harbour. Tickets are available inside the train or prior to the boarding.
Be sure to check out...

Be sure to check out neighboring cities. Sydney itself is not that big and there are plenty of other places to see:
DARLINGHURST is the equivalent to San Francisco's Castro district, a gay mecca. And talk about party town around Mardi Gras!
PADDINGTON next to Darlinghurst has blossomed over the years, as I am told. Great boutiques and eateries. They also have an outdoor market on Saturdays.
Be sure to also hit LEICHARDT the Little Italy here. Grab gelato from Bar Italia. It reminds me of the gelato I had in Italy!
Head over to PYMONT for Star City, Sydney's casino. Not only a gambling establishment. There are shops, restaurants as well as theatres.
great for families

We ended up staying here as the hotel we had booked from the UK was not up to standard. Star City was a welcome change and excellent value.
We had a 2 bedroom apartment which was spacious, clean, well equipped and well maintained. it was great for us staying with 2 children.
It is well placed for the monorail and darling harbour. there is a shop under the hotel if you wanted some basic provisions to eat in, or the hotel has a number of restaurants, we didn't try these though, they didn't open till 5.30 earliest, and due to jet lag, we wanted to eat before then.
If we went back to sydney we would definitely stay here again.
the staff were very professional and even let us into our room early as I was ill.
Will stay again. Highly Recommended

Myself and my partner booked into star city casino on the way back home from coffs harbour. From the moment we rolled up in the car everything was perfect. We arrived by car to have bell boys open doors and take luggage. From there we went on to checkin where we were upgraded to a king size bed for no extra cost due to a booking error that I made (not them).
When we arrived to our room we couldnt believe the quality of everything. From the bathroom soaps to the bedroom sheets. The bed was so comfortable, we didnt want to get out of bed in the morning. We had so many showers because the pressure and volume it distributed was fantastic.
The whole complex was of a very high standard and very modern. The rooms looked like they had been recently revamped and look stunning. The services throughout the complex was exceptional (and I am saying this as a restaurant manager by trade). The gaming floor looked a little tacky but there is a lot of good luck around the tables.
When we checked out the valet attendant went out of his way to give us a map and directions on how to get out of sydney, melbourne victoria bound. Overall a fantastic experience. You see your money really well spent.
Fantastic

Star City 5 star apartments were great. The location is fantastic. There is a bus stop underneath and the light rail service also departs from this station. Transport ran every 10-15 minutes so it was easy to get. The concierge desk helped us with our queries. Its only a 5 minute walk to Darling Harbour. The room was very clean. My only suggestion/complaint would be that the curtains in the apartment looked very old and no longer white..but apart from that everything is very modern. There was security on the apartments foyer on the weekends which was great. The pool is both indoor & outdoor with a great view. Looked very nice but i didnt get to use it.
Fantastic Family Break

We decided spur of the moment to take a quick holiday to Sydney and were able to get a two bedroom apartment for three nights. As our children are aged 3,4 and 5 we weren't sure about staying at a casino. What a pleasant surprise we got, the apartment was beautiful, you would have no idea we were situated in a casino. We had a large balcony that ran the lenght of the apartment so the kids had plenty of outdoor space to play,as well, inside had everything we needed, fully equiped kitchen, laundry, bathroom and ensuite with bath (handy for kids) as well as Nick Jnr, which meant we could get a bit of a sleep in. The pool area was fantastic and the kids would have been happy to spend the 3 days playing there. We did manage to drag them away and do lots of sightseeing around Darling Harbour and well as get quick access to the Ferriy to visit the zoo. We walked to darling harbour which was no problem for the little ones.
We dined with the children in Fortunes restaurant which had a nice kids menu and was reasonably priced. There is also a Subway and a Convenience shop underneath that had lots of supplies and there is a Coles supermarket just accross the road if you want to eat in the apartment.
On the last night we were there we used the Babysitting service so that we could have a night out in the Casino, I must say we were most impressed, the young lady who came to look after our children was wonderful, very relaxed and confident which made us feel likewise about leaving our children with her. We throughly enjoyed the night out, had a beautiful meal in Pyrmonts restaurant and a drink in every bar!! Great service from every staff member we dealt with.
Will definately be visiting again, with or without the kids!!
Casino dominates

My family of four stayed here for three nights in a two bedroom apartment. The room was fine - not four star but a decent three star. The staff was fine too. Location good for Darling Harbour and fish markets. Downside was the size of the place - it felt like a half mile hike to the restuarant for breakfast and the reception is on the opposite side from the apartments - you have to pass all the casinos and the dressed up clientele every time. We had to book here as we booked late and not alot was available - not sure I'd book again because of size.

Hello,
I am going to Sydney in 2 weeks and already book the Marriott Hyde Park. I just heard about the Star City Hotel. Is it better than the Marriott? And what about the location?
Thanks for your help!

The Marriot is in a heaps better location, Right in town.
The Star City Hotel is accessible by the light rail, or a 10-15 minute walk across Darling Harbour. Not too bad, but I'd go with the Marriot anyday.

casino one would be more luxurious - 15min walk along darling harbour (tourist precinct) to the main part of the city. within the casino there are bars, restraunts that would be open 24x7.
marriot is right in the city...5 min walk across ther park max...but its a bit older hotel. but still good enough. there is another marriot near circular quay and that is awesome if you can get that one.
