JOLLYSWAGMAN

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on October 11, 2012

Awesome hostel! the nightlife is very great. YOu also get a lot of vouches from the hostel for free drinks and free entry in some clubs

the staff is very friendly and help you in every way they can. If you need an advise, just ask them.

Also the other guests in the hostel were awesome, it is really easy to meet new friends there!

just go there and enjoy!

Unique Quality: it is really really clean! room cleaning everty 2nd day

Directions: Kings Cross

I've been in Sydney for a while and I must say that Jolly Swagman is one of the better hostel. It's big but friendly at the same time. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, the staff is awesome and you just feel at home. The only problem would be that the kitchen is a bit small for the number of people staying at the hostel. They have organized outings to bars for those who want to party - or you can just stay in and watch some movies on the bean bags. Loved my stay here and I would definately recommend it to others.

Unique Quality: There are no pools or anything like that, but the location is great. It's in a back alley, so you can sit outside or in the park next to it in peace, then go two blocks away and you're in the middle of Kings cross - bars, clubs, etc. The train station is only a couple of minutes walk away. If you need any directions or ideas of what to do, just ask the staff. The reception is open 24 hrs and they're all very nice and helpful.

Well, we were expecting much more. The room was freezing and just next door to the toilet. We could hear all possible noises. Friendly hostel as advertised wasnt so friendly. We felt quite strange there. Room was clean but it was funny smell all around the building. The good thing was location. Close to cheap food about 20 minutes walking to harbour

Sydney itself has lots of hostels, hotels etc...
I stayed at Jolly swagman...supposingly famous.
It's at kings Cross area.
Though there are many other hostels as well...

Unique Quality: Great view of the Sudney Bridge from the top.
nice breakfast and good tour packages/recommendations as well.

Stayed in here two days. Not that the place is overpriced for what you get, but the owner overcharged us when paying by card. So if you stay there, watch the amounts he types on the card machine.
Although it says there are free wi-fi, there is not. They will give you one hour of free internet usage..... for your whole stay. Then they will tell you that you have to pay. Very misleading.
Check out is at 9am!
Kitchen and breakfast area are tiny and were filthy. Ive noticed that some reviews say it was clean. I guess we have different views about cleanness
Staff was very unhelpful. They knew nothing about anything and were just focused on selling you whatever package they had.
Wanted to leave after just one day, but as the check out is at 9am, we had no time to find anything else.
Quite happy to leave this place behind on my third day in Sydney.
There are plenty of other places in the same area. I bet that all of them are far better
