2 days Sydney

by iankarim

Respectful Members,

I am in Sydney for 2 days and following questions answered would be a great deal of help for me.

1-Wd like a clean backpackers hostel. Max 30$ a night. Should be near to the train/tube station which can take me to the airport. As i am on a chance ticket i might have to go to airport multiple times. It might be away from central city
but if bus/metro access is there than i dont mind.

2-how easy it is to rent a car (with GPS) and drive outside the city. I would like to visit a farm for a day

3-is there any tour who can take me outside the city to visit farmhouses

4-how can i get a mobile SIM card and on what price

5-Is there a day pass for bus/metro which also includes trip to airport

6-any special advice for a lone first time traveller?

the yha hostel has a good name but i checked the price and an 8 person dorm costs 32 a night - pricey

it is very near central station though - it is very pricey to go to the airport by train - that part of the line is privately woned - last time i took it it cost $10 and i think the price has gone up

Craic has replied regarding hostel......

Regarding hiring of car- DON'T

The traffic is insane, it takes 40mins to get out of the city

A really nice trip is to the Blue Mountains (which can be done by bus or train)
Pop into any travel agent for info. They also might know about any specific 'Farm Tours'

Mobile sms card - Optus or Telstra shop (which are all over the city)

My best advice is to explore the city ON FOOT.The Rocks area is interesting.

The Botanical Gardens are exquisite.

Take a ferry to Manly (about 40mins) -have lunch at Manly on the beachfront.

This is a great way to see the beautiful coastline and harbour.

Travel Tips for Sydney

Sydney Weather

by petashipway

Hi,

Sydney weather at the moment has been so wet. A good website which I as a sydney resident use all the time, is http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN10064.shtml
this gives you all the info you need such as forecasts, temperatures and even maps of current rainfall.

Hope this helps!

Of course, you must see the Opera House. For the more adventurous, a bridge climb to the top of the Harbour Bridge is a must! A bit pricey at A$125. While in Sydney, we took a day trip out to the Hunter Valley Wine District. It was a pleasant time with a small group. Fortunately we had a very capable driver. I would have found it very difficult to drive after sampling all the fine wine!

If you are visiting Sydney you have to see the Aquarium in Darling Harbour, the main port. In Aquarium you can find very interesting things about sealife of different kinds of fishes and bigger like sharks, whales and more. Also, you will see things about life in rivers, lakes and swamps. You will spend more than 5 hours to see all of them!

Sydney's Chinatown

by SydneyGal

Sydney's Chinatown is a colourful mixture of asian culture, shopping and cuisine. The area's distinctly oriental architecture, street lanterns and archways confirm it as a showpiece for Australian Chinese culture. TIP: For a delcious Yum Cha lunch , try Marigold Restaurant, (level 5), George Street - near the monorail line. Alternatively, try any of the restuarants lining Dixon Street, offering an outdoor dining experience. You can take in the atmosphere and enjoy delicious food at a resonable price. I would recommend 'Superbowl' restaurant for a cheap and quick meal - open all day from morning till midnight.

Located at Dixon Street, Haymarket.
Nearest Public Transport
Sydney Explorer Stop 17, Central or Town Hall Railway Stations, Light Rail Stops

Bring your Own (BYO)

by Ramonq

If you see this sign on a restaurant window, this means that a patron can bring along their favourite plonk to the restaurant. However some restaurants charge corkage. Most Sydney restaurants are BYO.
