Convenient location but poor customer service
by ddmulia
The worst hotel experience in my life. I booked a triple room to visit Vivid Sydney event staying for one night Sunday 9 June 2013 (for 2 adults and 1 child). Booked it through their website a day before and on the day when we arrived at around 2pm we were told that there were no three single beds room available even though that was what I booked. The girl there allocated us to a queen bed room with a sofa. We checked out the room and unhappy because we paid for 3 single beds room so we made a complaint back to the reception desk on the ground floor. She then realised that we actually had the right to get room because we paid full price (including breakfast for three – later for this). For her mistake, she requested us to get our luggage from the room to the reception (our 8year old daughter stayed in the room during the course). We went up, picked up our luggage, and went down again only to find that we had to queue again quite long to get the right room. The girl that did the mistake was not there and a lady (that looked like a manager in charged) gave us the right room. Then we just realised that not only the first girl did the mistake, she even did not give the breakfast vouchers for the next morning. No apology coming out of anybody, even from the manager. The manager told us that the problem that for family for three sometime they want a queen bed – even though I specifically asked for three single beds room three times from the first girl. My wife was unhappy because there was no apology and we came down again to the reception desk and found the first girl, who admitted the error and apologise to us after we asked for it. I thought I could let go the issue until the next morning when we checked out and store the luggage in the hotel while we did sightseeing the Chinatown. When we pick up the luggage, we along with other people that stored their luggage were asked to come down to their store room in the LG level. Then another problem happened. A lady who organised us to pick up the luggage requested us to give the receipt tickets to her. We were then asked to find our luggage ourselves and then showed that the tags matched the tickets on her hand. The thing is she misplaced the tickets and insisted that we gave only two tickets instead of three. I was very upset and my wife took over and eventually the ticket was found out given by her in error to other person. She made us felt like we were going to steal a luggage, and she eventually apologised after my wife insisted about it. To be fair, the room was ok and the location was ok too. Not to single out one staff, but because this happened from more than one staff, we believe the culture amongst their staff are not friendly.

Great Location, Very Affordable
by dgines
The Travelodge isn't a 4-star hotel by any means, but it was only $50 AUD a night for a last minute reservation! It's cleaner than a motel-6, but less classy than a holiday inn and that's not saying much. The best thing about this hotel is the great location near Hyde park.
Unique Quality: Great Location near the park

A Good place for lodging
by yours_truly_raj
This is a good place to stay, only. The rooms are small and good. They come with a kitchenette which includes a microwave oven with 3 plates, cups, glasses and cutlery. There is no restaurant in the hotel, however they do serve a good buffet breakfast in the morning. Breakfast costs AUD 16.00 and is not included in your room package. ( This is a bit of a bother for those who like everything included in the package).
Located in the CBD, this hotel is right in between the Central and Museum stations railway stations. Most of the city's attractions are located within walking distance of this hotel, if you prefer to walk or simply take a train from Central to any part of Sydney. Circular Quay and Darling Harbour are each located at about 20 mins. walk from here. Sydney Tower is about 15 mins, walk from here.
Unique Quality: - Guest laundry.
- No Pool/Gym
- No parking facility
Directions: Corner of Wentworth Ave. and Goulburn street.

When in sydney....
by lizboat
stay was pleasant enough. location could be better, but close to chinatown, darling harbour and circular quay.
Unique Quality: was up and about most of the time- didn't have time to really review the facilities. was pleasantly surprised that extra pillows were already in the room without having to ask. also had plates, utensils, microwave(!) and dishwashing liquid in the room!

Wouldn't stay there again
by Pinnacles
An average hotel i would say. But the room is not fantastic thou a double room with the sofa bed cld easily accomodate up to 4pax . Room svc wasnt really good, didnt clear the dustbin in the room daily as well as the shower toiletries such as soap and paper wasnt "top up" regularly. Don't eat at the hotel restaurant for breakfast, its not worth the value of $13.50 per pax (buffet) for the qlty and variety of food served.
Don't think i will stay there the next time.

Its very affordable and easy to book, but this hotel was a very big disappointment. Nearly everyone who stayed here was American, the rooms are no different than what you would find in Kansas, and it was just plain dull.
Unique Quality: The rooms are really dependable and security is good. Its a McHotel, you'll never believe you left the States.
Directions: South of Hyde Park

- AMAZING VIEWS
by sirgaw about HARBOURVIEW HOTEL
I had previously stayed at this property when it was the North Sydney Travelodge and had well remembered the amazing views overlooking the magnificent harbour, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay and the city as a back drop for the scene. The view has not changed, but the hotel has. Now called The Harbourview Hotel it is listed as a 4 star property, but I feel it deserves at least another half star for its rating – and certainly the room we had for 5 nights.
King sized bed, luxury furnishings including a wide screen TV, well appointed and spacious bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities, bar sized fridge, in room safe and the real seller is the great view (see main photo on my Sydney page - it was taken from our room).
We dined in the hotels’ restaurant one evening and found the prices about average for the standard and quality - again a great view. Piano bar, spacious guest lounge and 24 hour business centre on site.
The hotel is located above the North Sydney rail station (station entrance is 1 minute walk) with direct connection to the city of Sydney and interchange with other lines at Wynyard or Town Hall stations - trip to Town Hall station is about 5 minutes. Across the street from the hotel is a shopping centre which includes a supermarket, food court, fresh food market and 50 or so specialty shops.
On site parking available ($15 per day) and conference facilities.
Perhaps the only down side of the hotel is the rumbling of trains, although we stayed on the 8th level and it was not an issue for us. The real seller for this hotel is the view.
Excellent value for money

We stayed at The Travelodge,Wentworth Avenue for 6 nights at the beginning of January, the hotel staff were excellent as was the location,it was central and only 100 metres from Hyde Park,a lovely park to walk through en route to Sydney Harbour. The room was very good and included small kitchen area, iron etc.The breakfast in the hotel was excellent.
Directly across the road is a bar that serves lunches and is open till late.
We were very pleased with our stay, the prices were good value and we would come back to this hotel in the future.
Excellent hotel in convenient location
by TripAdvisor Member porge
We enjoyed five nights at the Sydney Travelodge on Wentworth Avenue. The location is excellent being within easy walking distance of the CBD through Hyde Park, Darling Harbour, Oxford Street restaurants and Museum Railway Station is three minutes walk away where one can catch a train to Circular Quay.
We were given a room on the top floor (18th) and enjoyed interesting views of the city and beyond. The room was very quiet, in fact we heard no noise at all from the street or adjoining rooms. The room was simple but very comfortable and clean. The provision of microwave, crockery and cutlery is excellent for those on a budget and we found a Coles Supermarket eight minutes walk away where we purchased food. There are a number of smaller more expensive convenience stores closer to the Hotel.
Our room was serviced each day and we enjoyed coming back to our room each evening after a busy day sightseeing and finding fresh towels etc.
Overall, we found the Sydney Travelodge to be good value for money. It is a good, basic, no frills Hotel.
One of the best Travelodges

I found this hotel to be modern, clean, good value and with relatively spacious rooms with microwave oven and a few added bonuses. For a travelodge (don't expect five stars) this reprensents a decent affordable stay in on of the worlds great cities.
The only real downside to this hotel is it's location in one of the poorer more eastern areas of central Sydney. but i feel this hotel is good value with good service and i would definately stay here again.
