My 14th hotel in Sydney!

So, another one of those hotels I came across on wotif. Looking for something in the AUD$150 range that would not be an unrenovated room in a more upmarket hotel or something seedy.

It's quite a find, although by no means a bargain. AUD$160 per night, the attraction here is that if it was 1km/2kms further towards the city, price would be in the AUD$220/250 range. It's an odd place, it has to be said (although this has appeal). Small - 15 rooms in total, with the majority to be found in a small 1960s office block conversion. The main, heritage listed part of the building compromises a Malaysian restaurant out front and a 1st floor upmarket restaurant with one 'Heritage Suite' for guests.

The majority of the rooms are 'standard suites' and pretty funky they are too, with concrete floors, whitewashed walls, huge kingsize beds, great light fittings and wall hangings and a Bose music system! Bathrooms are huge and hip - every conceivable Juku bathroom product you can think of on offer as well as the biggest (and thickest) bath towels I have seen (more than 2 metres of it!!). This bathroom/shower now replaces The Kirketon (see earlier tip) as the best in the price range :)

Unique Quality: Location is its weakest point, being virtually opposite Central Station - ie the very bottom of George St. It's also the wrong side of Chinatown - giving you an idea of the schlepp required to get into a more central location. But the station is across the road - so easily reach Circualr Quays etc. Due to its location, there's also all night security on the door - and entrance into the hotel (and room) is all by electronic swipe card.

I liked the place a great deal - the rooms are extremely spacious and funky (especially the bathrooms), it's small without giving the feeling that your every movement is known about. I didn't mind the distance from the CBD - a healthy walk! The main thing I did not like was that it was hard to find a decent coffee close by!

Taxis are not over-familar with it - Valentine is a tiny street onto George.

A QUIRKY EXPERIENCE - AND IF YOU WANT TO STAY AT THIS END OF TOWN, INFINITELY BETTER THAN THE FACELESS OTHERS IN WORLD SQUARE.
