Stand alone in Rushcutter's Bay

A modern sweep of a hotel, white and glass situated in one of my favourite parts of Sydney (Rushcutter's Bay), The Vibe was a place I wanted to try out at least once.

Don't ask me why - whilst a modern low lying (3 storeys) hotel (longer than it is high), it had no particular architectural distinction. But I took the opportunity when it arose and I certainly had no complaints, but without it being particularly memorable.

A large, open, marbled foyer (but low ceilings which make it a little more friendlier), rooms that were of decent size without being palatial or box-like, modern and functional, large windows that allowed plenty of light made the stay comfortable and easy. On the rooftop is a small pool, wooden decking and pleasant views.

Unique Quality: I liked the place without being over-enamoured. If the emphasis is on a functional hotel with some trappings of comfort but without being ostentatious, this place is fine. Its not in the ideal spot if you want to spend most of your time in the CBD, but if you want to be within striking distance of Darlinghurst, Paddington, Eastern Suburbs and beaches of Bondi, Vaucleuse, Double Bay etc as well as not too far from the City itself, this is fine.
The only downside is that sometimes there's a long wait for a taxi.

I LIKE THIS PLACE. IF TIME IN SYDNEY IS LIMITED, NOT THE OBVIOUS PLACE TO STAY, BUT THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT THE LOCATION THAT IS APPEALLING

Accomodation Dec 28-Jan3

by Kara1616

Hi!

We are coming in for a family wedding over the holidays! Extremely expensive flight! We are finding a hard time finding somewhere decent to stay in our price range (100-130/night). Any suggestions would be so appreciated!!! We are hoping to have easy access to downtown.

Thanks,
Kara

Hi, I am from Sydney and of course do not need accom. there. However is you Google Formule 1 they are very reasonable, a bit like Hotel 6 in the US and there is one in Kings Cross. Try also Hotel Ibis World Square. Am not sure how expensive the Mecure Hotels are but there is one in Ultimo, good location and George St Sydney also good location, all the above can be seen on the Accor web site. Just thought of trying "lastminute.com" they have deals that are quite often 4 & 5 star hotels in great locations, you do not get given the name till you book, and are usually around the price you need and good locations, they give you a hint where they are on the web site. Hope this helps. Christine

Have a look at www.wotif.com it offers deals up to month, a last minute sort of thing. I stay at Vibe Hotel Rushcutters Bay, its backs onto a park & the harbour. It is on a busy road, just ask for a room on the park side. Train station about a 10min walk under Edgecliff shopping centre.Very close to the city if u want to use taxis, also Paddington/Oxford street, Kings Cross etc
Anyway wotif has a huge selection to give u an idea what is available - also check www.tripadvisor.com for hotel reviews.
Enjoy Sydney, it's fantastic.

yes, it is peak time all over the world around the xmas-new year period and sydney is no exception.
are you a party of 2 or 3 or 4? where is the wedding and reception to be held?
would you consider staying out of town but within a bus or train ride into the city? use the www.wotif.com site for research into hotels/apartments. it links to many places of accommodation and their location maps are useful.
check out bondi junction. it is a train ride into the city and a bus ride down to bondi beach. what about north sydney or crows nest?
do more searching and then come back with more questions on the locations of 2-3 places.
book SOON!

It may also pay to contact hotels directly. Alot of hotels will say they are booked out in advance, but are actually waiting until closer to the time to release the rooms.
