Helpfulness
Worst experience ever
The management at this Waldorf are arrogant and rude. The male manager responded to a complaint of his service by stating "that he will jump on the front counter" and " has the right to do whatever he wants as he is the boss". I have never been spoken to by anyone in hospitality in such a a way, whether it be a back packer hostel or 5 star hotel. DO NOT STAY HERE find an alternative in the area.

would like a nice place to stay in sydney for three nights
by salmbach
wife and I are going to be stoping over in Sydney for three nights 2-8 to 2-11 and would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions on where to stay. Of course we want a 5 star place for a one star price but really we would be happy with something clean/safe and in a convienant area. Thanks for any help.

when i am staying in Sydney I usually use wotif.com to get a good price
i think you can book about 20 days ahead - it has never let me down
I liked the Altamont Hotel (small quirky place) at the top of Williams Street on the edge of Kings Cross - although that is not perhaps the safest area
Darling Harbour is a good safe area and close to everything - but i haven't stayed in a stand out hotel there - the Novotel was all right

I liked the Medina next to Central Station very much. If it was on wotif.com I would snap it up. It's got a swimming pool out the back which would be refreshing if Sydney was steamy.
NB there are several Medinas in Sydney in different areas.

we got Rydges down near Circular `Quay for $100 a night plus breakfast on wotif
the hotel was okay and a good location and the breakfast was a stand out!
is that the kind of price you are looking for?
Re: would like a nice place to stay in sydney for three nights
the dates you want are up on wotif - scroll down for cheaper places
and then maybe check back if you find something at a price you like
i only asked for accomodation in the CBD

Craic mentioned a hotel near Kings Cross ...I quite like Kings Cross...lots going on.
Did you say 5 star? Try Star City...the hotel in the Casino and wow what a restaurant the one right at the top.But you can go up and see the view anyway.

As has been suggested wotif is very good. Suggest you have a look at the harbourview hotel in North Sydney with room views to die for. Have a look at their own web site and then try and deal direct with them rather than wotif. I did this for a stay in October and managed to shave about $20 a night off the wotif price. Go for their guaranteed king room with view rooms.

I support Jen's suggestion of using www.wotif.com
My last hotel room at the Ibis World Square was rather small but it was ok, breakfast was included, and the location was just fabulous. They only ripped you off with their internet tricks - but there are plenty of internet cafés around if you need this. Would happily stay there again.
... but also at many other places in convenient locations if they offer great rates on Wotif.

Try the Sydney Rocks District, George Street, just near the Harbour Bride end. You can walk to many attractions from here.

Staying in Sydney centre would be the best location. But Accommodation is usually expensive. Try looking at expedia.com.au it is similiar to the US travel site tripadvisor.com. I always use it to find accommodation. If you don't want expensive accommodation maybe you could try staying in some of the suburbs that have easy train or bus access.

I prefer the Aspire in Ultimo, good rates and great rooms. It´s near darling Harbour.
Travel Tips for Sydney
Golden sands.
by laughingsun69
One of the highlights of Sydney is the beaches , even if your not into getting rolled around in the waves theres nothing like the relaxing atmosphere that seems to intoxicate anyone in the vacinity, my personal favourites are on the north side of sydney which stretch from manly beach to palm beach in the north. When ever im away from here the ocean is what always drives me back its like a part of my soul, growing up here the people develop a culture and the surf and sand is part of that culture.

Just sharing this intelligent invention of the human kind... I'm sure you'll find similar ones somewhere around the world. I'd came across a few in New Zealand.
This one gives you a generuos 20 minutes before it unlocks itself - emergency percaution. This one is located @ corner Cumberland & York Streets.
Birds of Sydney

The Botanic Gardens and Domain were teeming with beautiful and exotic (well for me anyway) birds. It amazed me and I loved the fact that they went about their business while not minding people at all.

Australia Day, January 26th, to welcome the day local aboriginals perform the ceremony of Woggan Ma Gule. The guvorner of NSW attanded and afterwards there was a Q&A session. The perfect way to start a great day.
If from British type climates.

Take a backpack or a suitcase depending on your type of travel. If you go in the Oz summer then take very cool clothes as the temperatures get really high (unless you come from that type of climate).
If it is their winter then take some slightly warmer clothes but for brits they may still find it warm and something waterproof. Mosquito repellant and your usual stuff. Usual stuff. Take an umbrella as it is likely to rain in the winter.
Q:Lite rail "If I buy a ticket from Central to the Casino, am I able to interrupt the journey say at the market then reboard and carry on?"
A: "I would say you would need to buy 2 seperate tickets which you purchase onboard. For more info http://www.metrotransport.com.au/index.php/lightrail/home-2.html"
