YAMBA...NEW SOUTH WALES.

YAMBA...what a great spot..situated on the Clarence River about 700 klm's North of Sydney..(Yamba translates as "edible shellfish") just the ideal coastal town here on the Northern New South Wales coast..a really popular surf spot with good safe beaches for swimming also...great for families..good amenities on the beaches.....Fishing and water sports are the go here there is a fishing fleet that works out of the port here...The Yuraygir National Park is close by..There is a daily passenger ferry that runs daily to Iluka..also there is a local community market held in town on the last sunday of each month..There is many very good different restaurants in the area...I have friends that I stay with here quite often and is a good place to relax and enjoy the coastal waters..this is another place in OZ that I could easily live...

"The changing times"

When you arrive at Yamba there are definite signs of progress. Modern housing estates, new industrial estates, shiny yachts in the marina. In fact, the only reason, I suspect, that the place hasn't boomed more is that it is at the climax of a dead end road.
When you turn into the main street it still has that 50's flavour about it with small shops, locally-owned and they know most of their customers. One of the reasons for the town going ahead, apart from the great fishing, was the surfing boom. Though Yamba itself doesn't have great waves, nearby Angourie is one of Australia's legendary right hand point breaks and home of Nat Young, a well known, not always popular, legend of the Australian surf scene.
