Statues

The sea around Airlie Beach can be off limits for some of the year (see Warnings and Dangers tip ) so the lagoon is the best place to spend the day, as we walked around the area we came across a number of these little statues depicting Australian wildlife.

Underwater views at Knuckle Reef
by cnango
Upon arriving at Knuckle Reef Jeff and I and several other VTers were able to see the colorful coral and reef fish through the large window on the glass bottom boat. Several other more adventurous VTers actually got in the water and snorkeled around the reef.

"Airlie Beach - Australia"
Visited Airlie Beach as part of my east coast tour of Australia and my main aim was to go sailing in the Whitsunday Islands.
Signed up with a company to go on a private boat which slept around 12 people for 2 days which was great.
Visited the famous Whitehaven Beach which is often voted as the most beautiful beach in the world.
Stayed in a backpacker hostel once back on dry land.

Airlie Beach, a small town, very popular with backpackers is the main starting post for a trip to th Whitsunday islands. The town itself has plenty of pubs, a great manmade lagoon for chilling out in and loads of travel agents selling trips to the islands.
