Anyone know?

by brmaher

I am planning on heading to Airlie beach this Sept... I am wondering if there are any harvest jobs near by there. I want to work in harvest industry for 3 months so I can qualify for a second working holiday maker Visa... anyone know anything? Same for Byron Bay.....

Have a look at this site.
There are certain areas that you have to work in for that extra visa stay. It's all on this site.

You have done it all legal so far, so I would keep doing it this way. You have to show you have worked for the three months for your visa to be extended, I think it's a great way to get your extra time here. Because the cyclone up north I would think there will be a few extra backpackers coming further down south to find work.
Have fun

The main farms around Airlie and Proserpine are cane farms. They often take on extras for the crushing which will be full swing in Sept. There may be even some orchards nearby but not sure about this.

Bowen which is about an hours drive away is where the main fruit industry is...mangoes, avocados and citus etc.

Hope this helps...

Travel Tips for Airlie Beach

Statues

by Steve-H

The sea around Airlie Beach can be off limits for some of the year (see Warnings and Dangers tip ) so the lagoon is the best place to spend the day, as we walked around the area we came across a number of these little statues depicting Australian wildlife.

sailing and fishing

by relax47

sailing is one off best ways to see the islands, you can stop at most islands visit the resorts, stay overnight if you wish, you can camp on the islands for the night , then you can go fishing or just cruise around

Underwater views at Knuckle Reef

by cnango

Upon arriving at Knuckle Reef Jeff and I and several other VTers were able to see the colorful coral and reef fish through the large window on the glass bottom boat. Several other more adventurous VTers actually got in the water and snorkeled around the reef.

Airlie Beach - Australia

"Airlie Beach - Australia"

Visited Airlie Beach as part of my east coast tour of Australia and my main aim was to go sailing in the Whitsunday Islands.
Signed up with a company to go on a private boat which slept around 12 people for 2 days which was great.
Visited the famous Whitehaven Beach which is often voted as the most beautiful beach in the world.
Stayed in a backpacker hostel once back on dry land.

Airlie beach

by littlebush

Airlie Beach, a small town, very popular with backpackers is the main starting post for a trip to th Whitsunday islands. The town itself has plenty of pubs, a great manmade lagoon for chilling out in and loads of travel agents selling trips to the islands.
