my friend and i decided to pay the extra for a double private room with our own bathroom and kitchenette as we wanted just that little bit more luxury than roughing it in the dorms with share bathrooms, but still cheap budget accom... and we werent dissapointed! the beaches bar downstairs had a great vibe, and in particular i have to say the staff were amazingly attentive considering its a hostel not a 5 star! they were extremely helpful and spent a lot of time with us to choose the right boat trip out to the whitsunday islands.... then when my friend got sick on the day of the trip they were so helpful in getting us rebooked on another cruise the following day. the rooms were well worn but very clean, with comfortable clean beds (apparently a rarity amoungst north qld hostels!) as far as hostels in airlie beach, i wouldnt stay anywhere else - its also on the main drag of airlie so close to everything.
Unique Quality: great pub downstairs.
a no drinking policy in the rooms, and while that seems a little harsh at first i soon came to understand why they had to enforce it... unfortunately some w*nkers ruin it for everyone and things get broken so...the drinkings better left to downstairs in the pub. but if you really wanna stick to your own $10 cask of goon then one of the BYO cruises out to the islands would be a good option!!
I haven't stayed here but I want to supply some accomodation information.
The place seeemed popular. Situated on the main street and a short walk to everything it looked ok.
Unique Quality: Dorm rooms are $25 per person per night.
Directions: Right in the middle of Airlie.
