Humidity in December in Airlie Beach?

by dbrummer

Hi guys

We live in Cairns and we were thinking of camping in Airlie for the period over Christmas, just a week. What is the humidity like, as Cairns is stinking hot over that time.

If someone who has been in both town can shed some light, that would be great.

Due to extreme climatic changes the World is experiencing at the moment, trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local, on the day variations.
Most places now are seeing weather conditions well outside the norm.
The information below should be used as a guide only.

Here is the average weather for Cairns for this time of year.
Enjoy your holiday.

High 88f / 31c
Low 74f / 23c
Rain 7.40in / 188.0mm
Rain days 12
Hours of sun 8
Daylight hours 13
UV level 11 = Extreme
Humidity = High
Sea temp 83f / 28c

Been to both places but never at the same time. The conventional wisdom: from November to March most of coastal Qld is humid.

Airlie over Xmas is at least as hot as Cairns. In Cairns you do get some sea breezes but in Airlie you are pretty protected. Why don't you camp on one of the islands out in the Whitsundays? That way you will get the breezes and can go swimming at any time.

Hi,I live in Cairns too,so welcome to VT.I have been down to Airlie in December and have not noticed any difference with both places regarding the heat and humidity. So if you plan to go take this into consideration. If you were camping near one of the far norths rivers then it would be a bit cooler. Not much escape in my opinion.

Travel Tips for Airlie Beach

Airlie means 'Everything!'

by lou31

Airlie is all about many things. Fun, sunny days, fabulous scenery, natural beauty, excitement and much much more. A holiday in Airlie can be what you want it to action packed adventure with lots of fun, a quiet and intimate getaway or that something in between.

It is a real happening place that caters for all age groups and budgets. Though it is a modern town which has opened itself to the world it has a culture of it's own. You see it in the happy people and casual lifestyle. It speaks of fun, colour, excitement and lots of activities or the complete reverse....a put your feet up and rest awhile atmosphere. I just love Airlie. It has something for everyone. There is so much to do! You really feel alive when you are there!

What more could you want?.....

Border Island

by CandS

We spent our fifth night at Cataran Bay, Border Island while on the boat. It was a great place to stop and do some snorkelling. The snorkelling was the best of the places we visited in the Whitsundays - the water was very clear and there were lots of fish.

We also stopped at Dumbell Island quickly on our way over to Whitsunday Island for another snorkel...

There are no camping or toilet facilities on Border Island or Dumbell Island...but you should have everything you need on your boat anyway. :)

The Camira is an 85ft catamaran, one of the worlds fastest sailing cats.

Included in the day is snorkeling at hook island, world famous Whitehaven beach, and a fantastic BBQ lunch. That goes with morning and afternoon tea and all drinks.

The snorkeling at hook island is awesome (probably better than at the reef platform), the water is certainly clearer.

Whitehaven Beach is wonderful and the highlight of the trip.

Snorkeling gear and wetsuits are provided free of charge.

A beach or not a beach?

The Airlie Beach lagoon is a relatively new addition constructed in 2001. It is man made and a must see attraction. It's total area is 4300 metres square and has a max. depth of 2 metres deep.
The lagoon is surrounded by tropical gardens, sandy beaches and bbq and eating areas.
It is enjoyed by people of all ages. Swimming, sunbathing and relaxing.

Yachts Head To Airlie Beach

by Mikebb

"A Yachtsmans Haven"

Airlie Beach is a yachtsman's haven, the calm waters and light winds attract yachts from all over the world. It is a backpackers paradise and is being developed into an upmarket town at the entrance to the Whitsundays Islands which are protected by the Great Barrier Reef.

"Luxury Homes At Airlie Beach"

This is a beautiful area right on a sandy beach and blue waters. Originally a destination for yachties the word is out and now there is considerable luxury homes and accommodation available for those who wish to enjoy this part of the world.

"Shute Harbour, Gateway to The Whitsundays"

Shute Harbour is where the ferries depart for the resort islands in the Whitsundays. It is a beautiful place with sparkling blue waters, surrounded by hills covered with tropical rainforest.
