New Years Eve Airlie Beach 2009/2010

by Jazz1307

Hi there everyone...
I have booked a trip to Airlie beach over NYE 2009/2010, with my boyfriend and another couple and am wondering if anyone knows WHATS HAPPENING UP THERE over NYE & that period???
Also any ideas or names of some good clean, cheap, fun activities or tours in the area (Airlie/Islands/Reefs)???
Cheers!

I was up that way in December last year. Many of the back-packer places will have things happening, music, bands etc. Many of the islands also have stand-by rates if you can wait for last minute bargains.

A nice family activity was carols in the park, but this was early December.

One of the larger backpacker establishments:

Be certain of one thing- Airlie will be a fun place over the festive season. So many younger folks, backpackers and even families at Airlie. The snorkelling is great, and as Betska suggests- maybe an island stay. It is not necessary to do special tours- they are costly. Just wing it, you will have a great time.Visit the tourist office at Airlie and pick up some brochures for free.

Travel Tips for Airlie Beach

So many stars....

by CindyLou99

If you get the chance to sail the WhitSundays for 3 days, you will never believe how many stars there are in the sky until you see them in real life. At night we had the choice to either sleep up on the deck of the boat or down below. A bunch of us slept on the deck in the ocean breeze and watched the stars for the whole night. It was so amazing. I don't think I have ever seen that many stars in my life before. You will probably also get the chance to see "The Southern Cross" which is the South Pacific equivilant to the "Big Dipper" seen in North America. Such an unbelievable sight!

Hamilton Island

by CandS

We spent our seventh night at Hamilton Island in the marina. We spent some time down at the resort pool drinking cocktails and relaxing then had dinner at a nice restaurant...

Hamilton Island was our first real brush with civilisation since getting on our boat. The sleep wasn't too good since the nightclub is right next to the marina and the music played till the early hours of the morning...but the water was calm and our ear plugs worked well... ;)

VTers sailing on the Camira Catamaran

by cnango

On the second day of the Aussie VT Meet 2009 we sailing on the Camira, a sleek lavender colored Catamaran. Our destination was the pristine Whitehaven Beach, known for its soft white sand. The weather was beautiful and the sailing went pretty smooth .We had a lot of fun on board sunning, laughing, chatting and of course plenty of eating and drinking! The staff served a huge all-you-can-eat bar-b-q buffet, desserts and salad bar. Beer, wine, sodas, & bottled water were included in the cost of the trip. Overall I thought the all inclusive price of the package deal was a good value. You can get current prices and schedules on the website below......

"GATEWAY TO THE WHITSUNDAY ISLANDS"

Airlie Beach is the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands.

It is reached generally by air via the Whitsunday Caost Airport in Prosserpine.

It's a backpacker haven and Tourist area with plenty of accomodation to suit all needs.

You can go on a Whitsunday cruise for details see my Whitsunday page
