Airlie beach to Mackay Airport
by dougie5419
Can anyone suggest the cheapest way to get to Mackay airport from Airlie beach.
Thinking of using Greyhound, but don't know if bus stops at airport.

Hi Graeme. Airlie Beach to Mackay is about 2 hours and Greyhound Coaches would probably be the best way to go. The Coach will arrive in Victoria Street and the airport is only about 10 minutes away from there, so I'd ask one of the locals if there's a bus service or just take a cab to the airport. So are you travelling Tiger Air? :o)
Have fun!!

Yes thanks for your prompt post. I'm Flying from Mackay to Melbourne to Perth with Tiger Airways and wondered if a 3 hour 15 minute layover at Melbourne was enough. Are these flights usually on time? Just a bit concerned with a budget airline if there is a delay in the incoming flight as this could knock my schedule out completely.

Mmmm, don't know about that Graeme...but I knew immediately that you would be flying Tiger when you mentioned flying from Mackay :o)
So....coming to Perth? Well don't forget to let us know when you arrive so that we can have a nice welcome party for you :o)
...Another option is to consider Jetstar to Sydney from Hamilton Island (near Airlie Beach). I hear the flights are very cheap...and might save you a 2 hour bus trip from Airlie.
Cheers, Ann :o)

Thanks once again. I'll be in Perth next July for 6 days so will possibly be able to arrange a meet.
Need some help in planning itinerary for 3 weeks on East Coast after I leave Perth
Melbourne 3-4Days
Sydney 3-4days
Brisbane/Gold Coast/Byron Bay 6-8 days
Airlie Beach /Whitsunday islands 4 days.
Any must sees you can suggest that i've missed out.Don't really have enough time to go up to Cairns. Will probably use internal flights to save time.Intending to use Greyhound if this proves expensive.

Travel Tips for Airlie Beach
Don`t feed the Cockatoo`s
by Steve-H
There was no greater pleasure than laying belly up in the lagoon watching flocks of exotic birds flying overhead, all our native birds are black or brown, we particularly enjoyed the rainbow lorikeets, small brightly colured parrots that would visit our balcony in the morning hoping to share our breakfast.
Anyway, back to the cockatoo`s, they get fed and they forage for thier natural diet so there is no need to encourage them (they can get a bit agressive too) Airlie is a wonderful and natural place, lets not try to tame it all.
Airlie Beach Free Pool
by aussirose
The Board Walk ends at this gorgeous fee pool area! This idea seems to be catching on in Australia as I have seen it in Cairns, Brisbane and Redcliffe north of Brissy.
Well what a great idea!! Fantastic for a cool off after a hard day sailing or just spend time with the kids :o)
And the best thing is....it's free!! ....Bargain!! I say ;o)
Hire a Bareboat
by lou31
Bareboat charters are popular in the Whitsundays. Various companies hire out boats for those who are looking for a bit of adventure and something a little different.
You can have a choice of either a yacht, catamaran or motor boat. They come in all shapes and sizes from standard yachts to luxury motor cruisers. There are various companies that offer this service including Whitsunday Rent a Yacht and Queensland Yacht Charters.
Roughly prices can vary from $350 a day for a small yacht to $1,000+ for a luxury cruiser.
Boats usually come with fresh towels and linen, snorkeling gear, a fully stocked galley and navigation equipment. They have private cabins, hot and cold showers and BBQs.
There is also a $20 per person GBR Marine Park fee and petrol is not included.
Why not go all out and hire a cook to accompany you! Cost is around $230 a day plus meals.
Dao in Airlie Beach (VT meet)
by zzeone
"Aussie VT meet"
Dao(VA im holding) and I, along with the VTer's went sailing through the Whitsundays. It was a wonderful day on the ocean going in between island and finally arriving at "Whitehaven Beach". Which has the whitest sand ever and the clearest water you could imagine.
"All Day Sail"
We sailed all around the main Whitsundays Island. We had a stop here and there for a snorkel and a swim.
"Drinks"
Hope you like Guinness Dao, cause thats what you where drinking! This was taken down at the local pub while waiting from our meals to come. It was presentation time for the organisers of the VT meet. Hope there will be some more VT meets.
Airlie Beach - Backpackers Paradise
by jaycee1401
"Farewell Queensland!"
This was my final destination in Australia and spent a week or so here just partying and living it up. The hostel was called Magnums and I thought it was excellent. The rooms were basic but clean. Mixed dorms and more importantly there is a bar and nightclub on the premises! Met some good people here. Me and a mate were sharing a room with 5 french canadian girls who I won't forget in a hurry. I even let them choose a tattoo which I got put on my bum for a laugh. There is also a lagoon right next to the hostel which is good for meeting sexy ozzy girls! The night life is probably the best I experienced in Queensland, its renowned for party backpackers to end their year here before returning home.
