go to Southbank, where you can go for a swim, walk, bike ride, rollerblade. There are also lots of restauraunts, markets on the weekend, and the Queensland Art Gallery is just across the road! I love sitting on the lawn near the QLD Art Gallery, feeding the birds, and watching the river and the clouds roll past me.
Barbecue par excellence

Take the City Cat or the little City Ferry to Southbank and walk in the direction of the Story Bridge and soon you will come upon the historical and stately Kangaroo Point Cliffs which overlook the beautiful Brisbane River. Here you will find all sorts of outdoor activities happening, most especially night rock climbing. There are several barbecues which are kept well and are easy to operate. No charge for use.
This is a really beautiful area and it is wonderful to sit at one of the sheltered tables by the river and enjoy a meal. Go for a walk further downstream after your barbecue and when you have walked as far as you wish there will be a ferry terminal not too far away for you to catch a ferry back to the city.
If you are driving there is a parking area right in the midst of everything but beware it does get filled up quickly by the rock climbers.
This is a wonderful way for visitors to our fair city to experience Brisbane life first hand.
Packing List

You will not need a big bag (see below). I stayed 2 months only having packed a medium sized sports bag. Light clothing is recommended in general: shorts, t-shirts, sandals and the like. You might also want to take a jumper if you are visting in winter (May, June, July and August for the southern hemisphere!). In late summer (February and March) there is a rainy season, so take a light waterproof jacket.
Be sure to take a hat with a brim or a baseball cap, and sunglasses: these items are essential and not just fashion accessories. Sunblock, sunblock and sunblock. And maybe some insect repellant.

Not all tourists know what the locals do. When in Brisbane you must go to Stradbroke island. To get there take the train to the Clevland stop. There is a shuttle bus that will take you to the ferry station. From there it is a short 30 min boat ride. Once on the island there is a bus that you to various spots on the island
