Brisbane Hostels

by mooloo_thing

I am looking for a hostel to stay at in Brisbane - I have googled for some but am not sure which neighbourhood would be the best to stay in. Any suggestions will be greatly received! :)

Re: Brisbane Hostels

you didn't mention your budget?

anyway..i stayed at this place called Central Hillcrest in South Brisbane http://www.centralhillcrest.com.au/ the twin-bedded room was A$109/night.

the apartment was walking distance to South Bank (& across the bridge to the CBD) as well as near to the subway station.

Sorry,

Thanks for your reply, I am looking for a Hostel rather than a Hotel - so am on a very limited budget, I think most dorms run around $30AUD per night - am not too fussed on a few dollars difference if it means I will be more central to the attractions. :)

As far as I know there is still a small hostel on the first floor. You do have to go down the alley at night for entry but that was OK. It was clean upstairs with views into the street and a sitting room and a tea making place as well If you reply with details I could phone and find out if it is still available.

Heaps of Back/P accommodation in Brisbane, cheap. Try Central Backpackers - this is in city. Close to main rail, bus transport terminal,(if you want to travel to Gold Coast (sth of Bris) or the Sunshine Coast (Nth of Bris). You can catch also catch bus/trains to all over Qld from this terminal. Or try Place Back/P in the City. Any backpackers in the city should be ok. There are also some in New Farm. New Farm is about a 8/10 min bus ride to the city ($2.60 aud) New Farm can be a bit seady at night, so be a little bit careful. It has heaps of restuarants, and has some really interesting and colourful personalities around. Having said that it has some very expensive and beautiful areas too. Blue Tongue Backpackers, Brisbane Homestead are some in New Farm. Fortitude Valley and Spring Hill are also intercity areas, same sort of area as New Farm, but closers to the city as New Farm. Kookaburra Inn Back/P, Prince Consort Back/P and Valley Verancs-Friendly Back/P. Hope helps, enjoy.

Travel Tips for Brisbane

Sightseeing Brisbane, Gold...

by Musho

Sightseeing Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and the Darling Downs. Being a southeast Queenslander born and bred I reckon this is Gods own country and some of best range of beaches, mountains and river scenery within easy traveling of this marvelous city (then of course I might be a bit biased) The friendly people and the wounderful weather (as they say perfect one day fabulous the next ((well almost always)))

Tipping

by hU0N

In Brisbane, as in the rest of Australia, tipping is NOT customary. In many industries (particularly retail) employers forbid their staff from accepting tips. Tipping is really only accepted in the hospitality industry and is reserved for EXCEPTIONAL service only. Typically, $20 is a reasonable tip for excellent service. If the service was simply good, but nothing out of the ordinary, it is usual to leave no tip.

weather

by dragontml

Brisbane has a fabulous truly comfortable sub-tropical climate ideal for outdoor enjoyment all-year round that averages 245 days of fine and sunny weather each year. Brisbane has an average rainfall of about 1400mm annually, the majority of which falls in the summer period. Daytime temperatures on the coastal strip are generally in the twenties (Centigrade). In winter clear skies and drier air are associated with cool nights and light frosts may occasionally occur, especially in the mountains.

One of my favourite places in Brisbane is just to the west where the city ends and the mountains and National Parks begin. The best of these is Mt Glorius - a car is the easiest way to get there and drive through is thouroughly recommended. There are lookouts with stunning views and many walks through rainforests and waterfalls. As it is the bush you will often see many different types of wildlife. Best of all there are heaps of BBQ's up there to use for lunch which tops off a day out there.

Hornybrook Highway Bridge

by aussirose

To get to Clontarf and Redcliffe you cross this humungous long bridge on Hornybrook Highway. Actually there's 2 bridges, ...the old one and the new one......
Mmmmm let's say that again......the old one and the older one haha :o) I remember when we used to travel on the older one (very rickety) as the old one was being built haha. It used to be the longest bridge in the southern hemisphere, but I don't think it is now.
