We stayed here for three nights in early October, 2004. Driving in to the driveway and pulling around to the door, you'll immediately feel comfortable by the surrounding plants and fountain. I really have no idea how big a hotel it is, but it felt small and cozy. The service was good, especially since they moved us after we had already been in our room for a few hours. Upon reflecting that we had specifically asked for two double beds (well, we wanted something that gave more sleeping room than one double bed) when we booked online, my husband called to the reception and was told we could get a different room if we wished. I definitely would recommend this hotel to others. It's in a handy and apparently safe location within Brisbane. The biggest disappointment with this "bed and breakfast" deal we got was that breakfast was terrible! For some reason the crumpets were all dried out, and most of the fresh fruit was tasteless, etc. But for all that, now that I see that we paid only $78/night, that's not a bad deal!

The beds were comfortable, both of the bathrooms we'd had were clean and neat (the first room had a newly renovated bath with a shower; the second was not new but had a bathtub and had nothing to complain about), there was adequate storage in drawers and closet, a small refrigerator, an ironing board, a color TV with in-house movies, AND an outdoor pool! Plus there is free underground parking in their garage, with easy access to the elevators. The outdoor patio is a great place to sit and have drinks in the late afternoon to watch the sun set.

Abbey Apartments: Close to Brisbane Transit Centre and City
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I found this accommodation on the wotif.com.au site. It was clean and had everything I needed. Lounge Kitchen area and Bedroom with Bathroom and laundry facilities. A small balcony opened off the lounge area. The office isn't open after 6pm, so if you are arriving after this let them know. If no one is there, ring the Abbey phone number and you will get someone to come and open the door and give you your key etc.

    Nothing unique.....

Carlton Crest Hotel Brisbane: Central City Accommodation   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This has always been one of my favourite hotels to stay in Brisbane - either in the Crest or newer Carlton Towers. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable, facilities at the hotel are superb - particularly the ground floor restaurant, Picasso's - where I have been a regular, even when not a guest. Hotel is situation in the centre of the city - and walking distance to shopping, cinema, southbank and all its facilities - and near the newly developed Roma Street Parklands.

Great location - excellent restaurant and service facilities.

This is not the finest hotel I have lived in, nor is it the most expensive. Standard and service is quite OK, but the homey atmosphere is what I liked most about it. And the view of the railway station, offcourse :-) We spent two periods there in january 2002, all together 14 nights. Tourist agents have different deals with hotels in Australia (as in many other countries), we saw the same room advertized for AUD 112, 113 and 119. One thing is sure, though, it is never cheaper to go directly to a hotel without pre booking. We made our deal through an agent at Roma Street Station and paid AUD 82 per night for one adult and one child, breakfast included. At that time the australian dollar was about half of the US one. On the first picture you can see how close the hotel is to downtown Brisbane. There is an entrance to Roma Street Parklands right across the street, visible on the car crash picture which is taken from our window.

The manager (owner?). I believe the hotel was privately owned and not part of any big chain. He was present, working among his employees, warm and friendly. On our second arrival he himself picked us up from the railway station and welcomed us home :-). And when we left, he gave my son presents.

We love staying at this hotel for a week-end (or long weekend) getaway! Only half an hour from home - and get a room with a view of the river, as well as looking over Southbank Parkalnds. Close to the city, if you want to wander in for shopping or any of the other facilities. Southbank has all the entertainment you could want - museum, art gallery, library, Perorming Arts Complex if you want to take in a show, cinema, markets, the parklands and swimming. Breakfasts are plentiful and varied, and included in the room cost. The Saturday night seafood buffet is to die for. Not cheap - but an excellent array of the freshest seafood!

  • This hostel was the best hostel Ive been to. II stayed in a room with four beds (2 sets of bunks) with colourful doona's and sheets. The bathroom was located in the room and was small but perfectly fine. There was HEAPS of hot water!!!! It was all very clean even though my room was full. The common rooms and kitchens on each floor were also clean and comfortable. The bar down stairs serves a great breakfast and seems like a fun place to have a "schooner" or watch tv. Al in all, this hostel was fantastic and I highly recommend it!

I loved the brand and colourful themes which make you feel very welcome and provide a relaxed and laid back atmosphere without being pretentious about it. The building was also very secure. It is perfectly positioned across from the Roma Street Transit Centre (Brisbane's major transport hub) where you can get local and interstate buses, trains and the Airtrain (Brisbane's airport link). Its about a ten minute walk into the centre of the city. Its worth buying one of the groovy Tinbilly t'shirts

City Backpackers: Million dollar river & city views!
  • Tip Rating:

  • I haven't actually stayed here, but a few of my mates have and from them I've only heard good things.... Just a small plug for these guys for the great time they gave my mates.

The closest hostel to the Roma Street Transit Centre, just 400m. The hostel boasts market leading facilities, complete with million dollar river and city views from the rooftop swimming pool and balconies. In addition they offer the best nightlife in the city at their very own party pub, The Fiddler's Elbow!!!.

  • I was staying in Sue's cottage at the Mt. Mee (near Caboolture). In fact, Sue is a friend of mine and I have met her on ICQ. She also is a VT member (Soupy) and has nice traveller pictures as well. Only, she is too lazy to put them on here pages ;-) Shame Sue, wake up hahaaaa… She runs a fixing car company in Morayfield and she will give you 5% discount if you can prove that you are a VT member. Oh, you want the address. Well, here it is. Morayfield Automotive Services. Phone: (07) 5498 6002 All to there… ugh ;-)

  • Tip Rating:
  • In Surfers Paradise- the Diamond Beach Resort in Broadbeach- had it all, pools, spa, waterfall, deluxe rooms with many balconies, 24 hour office with ticket counter for the theme parks- well priced and not as expensive as it looked like it would be! In Caloundra- the Rydges Oasis Resort, also very flash and lovely apartments. Only problem- make sure you arent allocated a room that has a interconnecting door to another apartment. We were given one and the walls were so thin that the man snoring on the other side of the wall drove us out into the lounge! In Brisbane- the Newstead Gardens Motel- budget priced,1 roomed accomodation, that included breakfast and a lovely friendly host Bernie. between AUD $70 in Brisbane- $130 in Caloundra per room per night- both with breakfast
