YHA-Brisbane City (Brisbane, Australia)

One of Australia's most popular "hostel" hotspots is the "Brisbane City YHA" in the heart of the bustling metropolis of Brisbane. With state of the art accomodation in a "hostel way" that serves the 21st Century backpacker's needs. Nestled on High Roma Street, overlooking the river, the hostel is a multi-story building that offers safe lodging, affordability, sustainability, and amenities for the world travelling backpacker. Recipient of the "2010 Best Backpacker Accomodation" with the Queensland Tourism Awards. The hostel is decorated with Australian themes and floors, with the main lounge/dining area opening to a rooftop patio with a nice swimming pool. Overlooks of the city skyline, the Brisbane River, and the other hostels in the surrounding hood - next door is a cafe/bar, and numerous community rooms on the floors with group accomodations, TV lounges, game rooms, and lounges. Wireless internet throughout the building, secure parking in the back, and a group luggage storeroom with individual lockers/cabinets in the rooms. The hostel has air conditioned multi-share, twin, double, and family rooms many with ensuites. The staff is super friendly and helpful. My stays at the Brisbane Hostel was entertaining, fun, and exciting. Rating: 5 stars out of 5.

Help on Accomodation

by lwk-my

Hello :)

I am planning a trip to Brisbane in March '09. My budget for accomodation is max AUD100/nite.

I am looking for a quiet place, located within walking distance to shops, restaurants and places of interests and easy to get public transport. I am looking at either room with ensuite bathroom or 1-bedroom self-contained apartment.

I am planning to use public transport for my sightseeing. Some places I am interested to visit are Queen St Mall, Brisbane City Hall, Museum of Brisbane, Parliament House, Botanic Gardens, Fortitude Valley's, Australia Zoo.

I have shortlisted the following options :

1. City Star Motor Inn, Kangaroo Point
2. Dorchester Inn, Spring Hill
3. YHA Brisbane
4. Milton Motel Apartment
5. Ambassador Motor Inn, Hillgate Hill
6. South Mater Motel, South Brisbane
7. Brisbane Manor Hotel, Fortitude Valley
8. Spring Hill Terraces

I would like some advice on which of the above are the best based on the requirements listed above.

Many thanks for your response.

Gday, most of the places you have listed are pretty central. 2, 3, 7, and 8 probably being the best options, but all are pretty good. you should be able to get to Australia Zoo from Roma st transit centre Id say. Thats close to spring hill and not far from Milton, but Spring hill is the best bet there. Its a good hour from the city but awesome!
If you can wait until closer to the time, definitely check out wotif.com for last minute accommodation nice and cheap!
I hope you have a great time in Brisbane...make sure you check out southbank and Kangaroo point cliffs too :)

Personally, I would not go for option 1 (for reasons I would rather not go into on a public forum)! Unfortunately, I cannot advise on any of the other options as I've never stayed in any of these.
However, as you've probably already established yourself, the suburbs of New Farm, South Bank, West End, Highgate Hill, Kangaroo Point, South Brisbane and Spring Hill are all close to most of the sights you want to see.
As a result of them being so close to the CBD, none of them are exceptionally "quiet". Your choice 6 is in a back street near a private school, so may be a bit more quiet than some of your other candidates.

The short answer is 6, it's the best of that lot.

Maybe stay away from Kangaroo point, thats probably the least convenient out of your other options
