North stradbroke island

by starcie

My partner, 1 yr old son and I are heading up to brisvegas for a wedding on north stradbroke island in May. Does anyone have any recommendations on accommodation? It needs to be kid friendly and preferably cheap.

Also, is it best to fly into brisbane or the gold coast??

When we went to North Stradbroke Island we took the boat from Brisbane.

Have you checked this website for accommodation:

At the moment I cannot remember the name of the place where we stayed, I could probably look it up in the photo album. It was not directly on the beach but had great sea views and you could see the dolphins from the deck... However, it was no big place, so probably not the best thing with a 1 y old. I think there are more suitable places on the website above.

Travel Tips for Brisbane

In all Australia you are seeing Aboriginals. In Brisbane I found this guy at Queen St Mall. He was playing the famous instrument. If you wanted you could put some money in the basket or you could buy a cd from him.

Hmmm ... playing to be a statue!

If you run into these two people, I geuss you just must ignore them.

In a funny mood we played to be a statue. We've been along more than just one statue, but won't bother you with it.

Smile again!

The Gabba

The Brisbane Cricket Ground hosts domestic and international cricket matches, as well as Australian rules football. Home of the Queensland Bulls (Cricket) and the Brisbane Lions (Australian rules football), The Gabba hosted football matches for the Sydney 2000 Olympics and was the site of the famous tied test of 1960 between the West Indies and Australia. Teams based there include: Queensland Bulls (Cricket) and Brisbane Lions (Australian rules football).

The Brisbane Cricket Ground is better known as "The Gabba" and comes from the suburb of Woolloongabba in which the ground is situated.

There are two theories about the meaning of the Aboriginal words from which "Woolloongabba" is derived - "whirling water" or "fight talk place".

"The Gabba" dates back to 1895, when the land was designated as the site for a cricket ground.

The Gabba 1965
The first event conducted at The Gabba was a cricket match between Parliament and the Press on 19 December 1896. The result was a tie (61 runs each).

Until January 1931, Sheffield Shield and Test cricket was played at the Exhibition Grounds.

The first Sheffield Shield match scheduled for The Gabba (31 January to 4 February 1931) was washed out without the captains even bothering to toss.

The first Test match played at The Gabba was against South Africa from 27 November to 3 December 1931. Don Bradman made 226 in the first innings of this Test and this remains the highest individual score in a Test played in Brisbane.

In the 1950s and 1960s The Gabba hosted soccer matches involving the English first division clubs Blackpool (with Sir Stanley Matthews), Everton, Manchester United and the Chinese and South African National Soccer teams.

Events held at The Gabba over its 110 year history include: Athletics,
AFL, Baseball, Concerts, Cricket, Cycling, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Soccer, Pony and Greyhound Racing.

We have just been to Wynnum, and now we are heading along the Esplanade drive to MANLY on our tourist drive.
Manly Harbour Village was a fishing village in the past.

It is a popular spot, and has a huge variety of eateries, of lot of them outdoors, a nice way to soak up the lovely Brisbane weather!
Choices range from great coffee shops to Irish, Italian, Japanese, Chinese and Thai dishes, and of course, Australian & seafood restaurants.

The Manly Creative Market is held in the Bayside park, on Sundays.
And......There is also Craft Shops and Galleries.

Often, in the park, there are displays, like the day I visited, it was the Volkswagons of (old and new) car show, something different for a wander around for FREE!

The setting is pretty, with lots of Yachts and Boats in the pretty Marina.

There are Toilets, plenty of picnic facilities, and a great new playground for the kids.

Now, we are going to the Marina for a look, there maybe some good daytrips that we can do to the surrounding Islands....see you in TIP 3
