My first hostel ever!

We stayed at Cloud 9 Backpackers for two nights and we were in a 6-bed women's room on the second floor that had 3 bunk beds. Our room never actually got full - the most we had on one of the nights was 5 girls. Our room was in the midst of being remodeled - it was kind of weird since they had fixed up 3 of the walls, but one wall was made up of exposed brick. I felt the effect was actually kind of charming. The rest of the place was still in the midst of being remodeled. Much of the work was already done - the walls were freshly painted and the wood laminate flooring appeared to be pretty new, but what looked like a 2nd floor lounge above the lobby was closed and was definitely being worked on. Our room also had 3 large windows with views towards Downtown Brisbane, however, one window could not be opened.

The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. They didn't have lockers or closets though, and so we just stowed our backpacks under the bed and made sure they were locked. A key card was required to get into our room, so we felt pretty secure that no one was going to get in there except for our other room mates.

The women's restrooms are located on the first floor and were generally clean, except in the late morning after everyone had torn through there and taken showers, and then it needed a little sprucing up. However, we saw staff there cleaning several times.

There were a lot of people staying here, but it never got too noisy. In the middle of the night, we would hear people crawling back to their rooms after going to the pubs, but the hubbub would die down quickly and it wasn't a problem.

Unique Quality: There is a small store in the lobby that sells snacks and drinks, and they also have three Internet computers there as well. The computers were heavily used and I was only able to get on them early in the morning. There is also a small kitchen off the lobby, but we didn't actually do any cooking so we didn't use it. There is a TV in the lobby and a sitting area and a few tables.

There is also a rooftop balcony on what I guess would be the third floor and it has a nice view over the Brisbane River and towards downtown Brisbane. They have a picnic table up there, and a BBQ grill.

There is also a bar/pub right next door to the hostel that was open in the evenings. We only went one night, and it was a pretty relaxed place. They have a pool table and seating to just lounge with our beers. They have different things going on there every night and the night we went, they had free pizza if you bought a beer.

The hostel is also fairly centrally located, and it was only a 5-10 minute walk to the Brisbane Transit Centre, and about 15 to downtown and the Queen Street Mall area.
