State Flag of Queensland
by xuessium
The Queensland state flag was created as a colonial flag - a British Blue Ensign with the badge of the colony added to the blue field.
Because some of the Australian state badges were originally created to represent the Governor (as distinct from the Colony) they generally showed some element of British royal heraldry - the main criteria being that it be different from similar badges used in other parts of the Empire.
Queensland uses a blue Maltese Cross (Malta used a red cross). The Crown [superimposed on the cross] on the Queensland badge represented the status of the Governor as representative of Queen Victoria in the Colony.

What to Wear
by keeweechic
Casual wear such as a pair of jeans and a sports shirt are acceptable at casual restaurants and pubs at night. Just don’t wear thongs (flip flops) work boots or go shoeless. Of course upmarket restaurants require a reasonable standard of dress.
The Sleeman Centre
by ASTIEL
Sleeman Centre — team based there: Queensland Firebirds (Netball)
The Sleeman Centre was purpose built for the 1982 Commonwealth Games. Since then the centre has hosted a range of sporting events including the 1994 World Masters Games and the 2001 Goodwill Games swimming, diving and cycling events.
The Sleeman Centre and the Chandler Aquatic Centre were named after the past Lord Mayors, Sir John Chandler and Frank Sleeman.
The Sleeman Centre is a sporting and entertainment facility located in Brisbane, Australia. Construction of the centre was completed in 1982, with several upgrades and improvements having been carried out since that date. Located in the suburb of Chandler, the centre is 15km south of Brisbane's CBD and is home to an aquatic centre, velodrome, sports arena, gymnastics training hall, gymnasium and auditorium. The centre currently offers a range of services to the public, including indoor and outdoor community activities such as swimming, diving, health and fitness classes, a gymnasium, childcare facilities, and a children’s pool and water slide. The centre is open to the public and is also available for bookings from organisations.
Marcoola Beach - Sunshine Coast
by Aleyd
!!! UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!!
A few years ago I had a really enjoyable stay at Marcoola Beach. Marcoola Beach is located between Maroochydore & Coolum, on the Sunshine Coast. Marcoola Beach has a very local, sleepy and friendly feel about it.
Our motel (off David Low Way, near the airport) was a 15 minute walk along the beach to the Surf Lifesaving Club restaurant, and a number of small cafes and restaurants.
The one down side is that Marcoola Beach is located right next to the Sunshine Coast Airport. However, it is quite cool to see the airplanes coming in so low and slowly.
Marcoola Beach is about 1 1/2 hours drive from the centre of Brisbane.
(I will try to find some more details about the motel we stayed in.)
