Go to the Sunshine Coast. ...

Go to the Sunshine Coast. It's just a two hour drive from the centre of brisbane, but it is much less tourist focused and beautiful than the Gold Coast. Its a must in Sout East Queensland. The beauty of the city. It is a really clean and livable city compared to some of the southern capitals. Moreton Bay and Moreton Island are the most wonderful aspects of Brisbane. Essential to visit!!!
MURALS
by balhannah
Driving around Brisbane and the suburbs, take a look at the beautifully painted murals. These are often found on the side of the Highways, painted on the 'sound barrier fences" to beautify the fences.
In some areas, like near Beenleigh, the fences are painted of Farmers and their Sugar Cane, this is grown in this area.
At Daisy Hill, where I took my photo, it is of Koala Bears, as lots are found in this area.
If travelling on the Gateway arterial road, then you will see well done ones of sea creatures, such as Whales, Dolphins etc.
Not only are fences painted, but walls of shops, and electrical boxes, it certainly makes the place look better, and usually the graffiti artist's leave this work alone.
I think it's a very nice way to beautify what would be a very ugly sight!

City views one way, Mountain views the other
by Ukarumpa
If you head west out of Brisbane on Musgrave Road, which turns into Waterworks Road, you go through Red Hill, Ashgrove and The Gap before leaving Brisbane proper and heading into Crown Land. This is land which belongs to the government - technically still the Crown - and cannot be developed. 15 minutes' drive from The Gap and you could be parked halfway up Mt Nebo at a lookout with a perfect view of the City. Most of these lookout areas are clearly (if somewhat precipitously) signposted - you can see the sign, but not until you pretty much HAVE to turn. This makes traffic slow, but there isn't much of it and you'll generally be too busy looking at the view to bother about speed!

Two hour trip #3 The Scenic Rim
by tiabunna
“The Scenic Rim” is the name given to the mountains extending from the Dividing Range west of Brisbane then through an arc along the NSW border to the hinterland of the Gold Coast. Much of this area is now in a series of National Parks, providing walking trails through superb sub-tropical rainforests. Here you will see rugged mountains of volcanic origin, steep gorges and waterfalls.
There are several points where access is readily available. To the southwest of Brisbane, a main road to the south runs through Cunningham’s Gap in the Great Dividing Range. Futher east, there are well-known tourist resorts, where you can stay for a period, at O’Reilly’s and at Binna-Burra in the Lamington and Springbrook National Parks. Other roads pass through the Numinbah Valley (en route to Murwillumbah), and on the Mt Lindsay Highway where Mt Barney dominates the skyline.
