Not to be confused with Palace Central Backpackers just up the road, this is the quieter, friendlier version. I heard stories that Palace Central is noisy, unfriendly and people's stuff is always going missing. Not so at this place, I really liked it here. It hasn't really got a lot of character, but the rooms and bathrooms are clean, all rooms have air-con (believe me this is a blessing during the humid summer months!) and there are drawers under the beds to lock you're valuables in (bring your own padlock). The deck area is a great place to meet other travellers staying here, and everyone was really friendly and kind. Most of the staff are backpackers helping out in exchange for free accomodation, and will spend their time, when they're not working, socialising with other guests.
Unique Quality: There's a large kitchen with plenty of storage space, but does get a bit messy towards the end of the evening. There's a home cinema style movie room, and a seperate tv room upstairs, as well as expensive internet access. You also get access to the numerous facilities at Palace Central, where there's also a bar (the Down Under Bar) serving cheap food, cheap drinks and caters solely to the backpacker crowd. They offer free transfers to the Transit Centre in Brisbane, and the central location makes it the perfect base for exploring the city and surrounding area.
