IDEAS FOR WHAT TO DO WHEN VISITING BRISBANE...1
by balhannah
I thought I would list some different ideas in case you (the Tourist) would like something a little different.
First of all, I must say that I haven't done these "as" tours, as living here, I can visit of my own accord. You could do this a lot cheaper with your own planning.
So, Here goes.....Overnight Bush Safari Camp and 4WD tour on Moreton Island.
You get to tour the island in a 4WD, seeing forests, pristine beaches, Cape Moreton Light House (a great spot for wildlife viewing), Blue Lagoon (fresh water lake infused with tea tree oils), 40km of uninterrupted surf beach, The Big sand hills for sand tobogganing and great views, Five Hills Look out (panoramic views back to Australia and the Glass House Mountains.)
During the two days your guide will take you on short bush walks, explaining the island flora and fauna, and on a guided snorkel around fifteen amazing ship wrecks which are teeming with fish life.
Cost 2009, about $300 which includes the Ferry fee of $40
There are also day trips available that are similar and a lot cheaper, and also day 4WD tours to North Stradbroke Island which is very nice. http://www.discoverbrisbane.com/things/index.html

Fraser Island day tour.
by sfphototraveller
I signed up for a one day fraser island day tour. A white 4 X 4 truck that held 16 passangers picked me up at my hotel. The 2 drivers and Guide Anthony and Kimberly. They drove this thru Downtown picking up other tourist and people were just looking at this 4 X4 white truck with very large tinted glass windows it looked like a large panel truck until i got inside with seats and an air conditioning unit in the back to keep us cool.
They drove this big 4 wheel drive truck into the sand on the beach onto a Barge with other 4x4 to the other side of the water to Fraser Island. We saw dolphins swimming while on Fraser island. The guides gave us history on the island. They took us to a beach area where we could walk or swim. We then had lunch. We went on a short walking tour of the on a wooden manmade walkway built above a water beach area telling us about trees etc. They also let us walk on the beach. But we had to watch out for other 4x4 driving on the beach. There were some people fishing on the beach.
The Brisbane Botanic Gardens
by keeweechic
Founded in 1970, the Brisbane Botanic Gardens are set on 52 hectares at Mt Coot-tha. There are over 20,000 plants which represent some 5000 species collected from around the world. You can take a volunteer guided walk daily except Sunday and public holidays and between mid-December and mid-January which last around 1 hour. Admission is free and the gardens are only 8 kms from the city centre.
There are various displays including a tropical dome made up of tinted panels in an aluminium frame. Pathways meander through a variety of tropical plants and around a central pond. The dome is open between 9.30am and 4.00pm daily
Location : Mt Coot-tha Road, Toowong
