Fab waterviews.

Book river view room as its only $20.00 more than a standard room. The view is terrific overlooking Brisbane skyline and river.

The room is spacious but could do with a fresh modern uplift. Renovations were happening so maybe rooms will be next. The room has all modern cons with fridge, Tv, small kitchen and internet connection.

The bathroom is small and also could do with an uplift.

Staff friendly and efficient.

Position great as its a walk across the footbridge to the city (10 mins) but you can enjoy Southbank and the gardens. I have stayed here a few times and prefer this hotel to others, mainly because of the views and the parklands across the road.

Great value for money.

A great weekend getaway

We love staying at this hotel for a week-end (or long weekend) getaway! Only half an hour from home - and get a room with a view of the river, as well as looking over Southbank Parkalnds. Close to the city, if you want to wander in for shopping or any of the other facilities. Southbank has all the entertainment you could want - museum, art gallery, library, Perorming Arts Complex if you want to take in a show, cinema, markets, the parklands and swimming.

Breakfasts are plentiful and varied, and included in the room cost.

The Saturday night seafood buffet is to die for. Not cheap - but an excellent array of the freshest seafood!

Great Holiday Hotel!

I stayed over a Friday and Saturday night in a deluxe twin room. Being on the 6th floor we had pretty good views but they were partly obstructed by the Griffith University building across the road. In the evenings from the large balcony you could look down the river towards the Goodwill Bridge and Kangaroo Point and up-river towards the QPAC Building.

In terms of location the Southbank was perfect for leisure travellers being really close to the entertainment precinct at Southbank. It was also easy to get off the AirTrain from the Airport at South Brisbane station and it was only about a 300m walk to the hotel. Many of the big hotels are in the main part of the City, which may be more convenient for business travellers but if you are mainly planning on seeing the sights then this would be a good choice.

The hotel has gym and spa and a downstairs bar and restaurant, the bar is a good place for a pre-dinner drink before going across the road to the busy areas of Southbank or Little Stanley Street.

More about Rydges Southbank Hotel Brisbane

A room with a view

by TripAdvisor Member K_K_travellers

The hotel was recommended to us. However, we were a bit reluctant as there were several comments on Tripadvisor warning travellers about the ongoing refurbishing program. The GM had commented that the program ended at the end of 2007.

At the arrival we were given a room on the 10th floor with a view of Brisbane the CBD and the river, and a very large terrace. It was also a very large room and newly re-decorated. It really looked very nice. On the other hand we don’t think that a room a few floors below, looking into the building in front, or on the other side overlooking the railway tracks, would have been that great.

Just the opportunity to sit on the terrace in the evening resting your feet, enjoying the view of the city and the river and with a glass of wine was worth the rate.

The service was also very satisfactory as the personnel demonstrated flexibility in finding practical solutions to small problems that occurred.

The location is perfect, close to the city, but still quiet, several good restaurants close by, a nice park in the front and even bathing facilities at the river bed.

This is a place that we would defiantly go back to, but will insist on a room with a river view. We almost didn’t want to leave!

Great Location

We stayed at this hotel for a night on route from Brisbane to Sydney.

The location is great and really convenient for seeing the sights of Brisbane, at night there are lots of bars and restaurants to go to locally. Furthermore the hotel is less than 5 minutes walk to the train station with direct trains to the airport.

As far as the rooms go they are fine, just like any other large chain hotel. They are clean and fairly spacious, no complaints.

good location, friendly staff

by TripAdvisor Member mm29

We stayed at The Rydges for one night in January 2008, on route to the Whitsundays.

The room was large, spacious, nicely decorated and clean and the reception staff were very helpful & friendly. The hotel offers car parking for AUS$24.00 which for us was worthwhile as I don’t think it would have been easy to find cheap parking near by.

They also have laundry facilities in the basement (AUD$3.00 per wash or dry).

The hotel is ideally placed to explore the city, it is defiantly worth taking time to walk along the river, and the “city cat” (ferry) offers great views of the city. There is a bar attached to the hotel but there are many bars and restaurants near by.

If you have time a visit to Mount Coot-tha is well worthwhile for the views, however it isn't well signposted from the city so do ask for directions.

Rydges - I Love It

by TripAdvisor Member TCTGoldCoast

Had a over night stay at Rydges as we had a special family outing to the Basketball. The convention centre was right next door, and Southbank just across the street. The CBD bar was great for a quick bite before we headed to the basketball. The staff at reception, and also at Breakfast were very friendly and efficient. The views to the city were great. The girls loved looking at the lights. We had a king suite and it was very comfortable. Huge king size bed, and the outer room had a very comfortable sofa bed. Balcony off the room was also a bonus. I stay at Rydges alot and would recommend this hotel along with the chain any time.

Great location

by TripAdvisor Member EddieFGlasgow

Stayed here in late March 2008 and am delighted with our choice which was made on the basis of stays with Rydges in the UK. Our room was spacious and well appointed and we found the hotel staff to be very helpful.

The hotel is close to the Convention Centre, Museum and Art Gallery and within easy walking distance of the City Centre. There are a number of restaurants and cafes in the area if you don't want to eat in the hotel although we found Southbank's own CBD cafe pretty good value (see note below on Rydges membership).

The hotel is easy to get to from the airport - 30 minutes on the train to South Brisbane train station which is no more than a 5 minute walk away.

I would suggest that anyone who is thinking about a stay with Rydges consider registering with them - this gives access to much better room rates as well as a 20% discount on food / drink in the hotel.

Good place to stay

by TripAdvisor Member WillemIII

Nice business style hotel, just across the river outside the main area of south Brisbane with the main entertainment area of bars, major hotels and restaurants. The hotel is directly connected to the convention center. Yet, as hotel guest you do not notice any effect. It is not a hotel for travelers with kids, because there is very little entertainment.

The rooms are spacious and well equipped, a flat screen tv, nice bathrooms and our room had a balcony overlooking the city on the riverside. Staff is friendly.

Breakfast is complete but nothing fancy, it has all the main ingredients of a continental and hot breakfast. It was a little pricy (AU $ 25) for what you get.
