Overlooking Southbank and the city
by thedouglas
We love staying at this hotel for a week-end (or long weekend) getaway! Only half an hour from home - and get a room with a view of the river, as well as looking over Southbank Parkalnds. Close to the city, if you want to wander in for shopping or any of the other facilities. Southbank has all the entertainment you could want - museum, art gallery, library, Perorming Arts Complex if you want to take in a show, cinema, markets, the parklands and swimming.
Breakfasts are plentiful and varied, and included in the room cost.
The Saturday night seafood buffet is to die for. Not cheap - but an excellent array of the freshest seafood!

The view of the hotel from Southbank "Beach"

I stayed over a Friday and Saturday night in a deluxe twin room. Being on the 6th floor we had pretty good views but they were partly obstructed by the Griffith University building across the road. In the evenings from the large balcony you could look down the river towards the Goodwill Bridge and Kangaroo Point and up-river towards the QPAC Building.
In terms of location the Southbank was perfect for leisure travellers being really close to the entertainment precinct at Southbank. It was also easy to get off the AirTrain from the Airport at South Brisbane station and it was only about a 300m walk to the hotel. Many of the big hotels are in the main part of the City, which may be more convenient for business travellers but if you are mainly planning on seeing the sights then this would be a good choice.
The hotel has gym and spa and a downstairs bar and restaurant, the bar is a good place for a pre-dinner drink before going across the road to the busy areas of Southbank or Little Stanley Street.
Directions: If you are coming from the Sotuh Brisbane Station it is about 300m along (towards the main part of SouthBank). Nearest landmarks are the Griffith Uni building and Southcorp Piazza (big stage-thingy)
Overview Rydges South Bank Brisbane Hotel is located in the heart of Brisbane's arts and entertainment precinct and is the closest hotel to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Activities in the precinct are endless with regular events and showcases on art, music, food & films.
It's the perfect place to take advantage of Brisbane's outdoor lifestyle; wander through the weekend art & craft markets, take a dip in South Bank's man made Street's beach, or enjoy a barbeque or picnic in the lush parklands.
The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre is immediately adjacent to the hotel and and downtown Brisbane and the bohemian village of West End are a 10 minute stroll away.

Book river view room as its only $20.00 more than a standard room. The view is terrific overlooking Brisbane skyline and river.
The room is spacious but could do with a fresh modern uplift. Renovations were happening so maybe rooms will be next. The room has all modern cons with fridge, Tv, small kitchen and internet connection.
The bathroom is small and also could do with an uplift.
Staff friendly and efficient.
Position great as its a walk across the footbridge to the city (10 mins) but you can enjoy Southbank and the gardens. I have stayed here a few times and prefer this hotel to others, mainly because of the views and the parklands across the road.
