Cheap doctor for immunization (typhoid)

by caldarrosta

Hello,

I am going to asia and I'd like to get immunization for typhoid and I am looking for a cheap doctor so far I only found one that does consultation for $50 and $80 for the typhoid immunization ($130 total).

Does anyone know a cheaper option???? Thanks a lot!

Find a bulk billing doctor and you'll save the consulatation fee. You'll still get charged for the vaccine.

It would be alot less expensive getting it when you arrive in Asia

I think the majority of the cost will be the injection itself, no point getting it in Asia, you need it a certain time before you go in order to build up the antibodies.

If i recall correctly typhoid injections are not covered by the PBS or medicare system, so you are going to have to pay for it.
I had a Typhoid/Hepatities C injection before I went over to Asia Last year and paid in excess of $200 for it. $130 Typhoid sounds about right to me, and i am quite sure their are not too many doctors out their who offer cheap injections!

Hi Agree with Lonley Traveller, will be over $200. I had the injections before I went to Vietnam earlier this year, hepatitis & typhoid combined vaccine, it was a series of injections 3 to 4 weeks apart so you need 6 week period before you depart. I think each time the chemist charged approx $80 for the vaccine, then the doctor $60 consultation. I suggest you ring doctors surgies in your district and find one that bulk bills, then you will only be up for the vaccine.

Good Luck,
Mike

It may be hard to find a Dr that bulk bills AND is willing to give you an appointment for non-essential 'extras'. The price sounds pretty good to me.

AUSSIE RULES FOOTBALL

by balhannah

Its Saturday night, Winter, and you have no where to go!

What about going and seeing our local team, the BRISBANE LIONS play football (AFL) at the Gabba.

You would have to check the newspaper, because sometimes, matches are held on a Friday night or Sunday, and sometimes the matches are away in another state.

The game is fast and furious, exciting, full of action!

Come to the Gabba and hear the LIONS ROAR< its a great night out!

They always put on extra public transport to deal with the crowds, and this makes it very easy getting to and from the Gabba.

The Gabba is located between Vulture and Stanley Streets, Woolloongabba

Kangaroo Point Cliffs

by lachydragon

Brisbane really is a lucky city for active people!! What with the fantastic bike paths and the Kangaroo Point cliffs. I am a Sydneysider and pay $13 to climb at in indoor climbing Gym once a week but Brisbaneites get this amazing crag to clamber over every day of the year, floodlit until late in the evening and all for FREE!

Opposite the Botanical Gardens on the other side of the Brisbane River, Kangaroo Point is linked by a good walking/cycle path and there is a small strip of grass running along the side of the road with a railing to keep people from wandering too close to the cliffs. Climbers simply have to jump over and they will find heaps of bolted sports-climbs at their disposal with a fantastic railing to lean on for belaying! Too easy!

A climber's website thecrag.com says that there are up to 256 climbs at Kangaroo Point with a pretty wide range of grades from (Australian: 6 to 27) (USA: less than 5.3 - more than 5.11c)

Unfortunately my trip to Brissie was a mystery trip as a birthday present so i didn't think to bring my climbing gear but I did get out there on two evenings and check out he action...next time, I'm there! Climbing is a potentially dangerous sport and you will need specialised equipment for it. If you would like to climb Kangaroo Point and do not have access to equipment and skills then there are commercial operators who do trips there and you should be able to find info in the What's on type guides that you can pick up at the airport or tourist info offices.

Queensland Cultural Centre - Important collection.

by Jerelis

This superb complex now includes the Queensland Art Gallery, the Performing Arts Complex, the Queensland Museum and the State Library.

Located just over the Victoria Bridge from the city's central business district, the complex was designed by the local architect Robin Gibson. It has successfully drawn together, on the banks of the Brisbane River, most of the city's major cultural activities.

Surrounded by subtropical gardens it consists of the John Oxley Library, the Queensland Museum, a number of restaurants, and the Performing Arts Complex.

Brisbane Powerhouse. This place is a 5 minute walk from where we live. Beautiful old building, which houses a Live Arts Theatre, Restaurant, Bar and Gallery. Something a little different.........

You can find it at 119 Lamington Street, New Farm (5-10 mins from the City).

To visit their website:

www.brisbanepowerhouse.org.

Not to be confused with the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.......!
