Sofitel Hotel – Gold Coast.

The Sofitel was formally the Mecure Hotel and has since been renovated and refurnished. The improvement in the décor and building is now very contemporary and modern. It is situated one block from the beach which can easily be reached by walking through the Oasis building.

The monorail station is just outside to take you to the Casino. There are also plenty of shops, ATM, and cafes close by and also in the Oasis complex.

Our room 2009 is on the 20th floor with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the Gold Coast. The room consists of a king size bed which is ultra comfortable, working desk with broadband, plasma TV, two chairs, mini bar, coffee facilities, with a small balcony with two chairs and table. The room is slightly on the small size.

The bathroom is very modern with green marble features, plantation shutters, a small spa bath, shower, with dramatic views of the ocean, getting out of the shower can be a problem!. Breakfast was served on the 3rd floor next door to the swimming pool.

We found the breakfast to be very limited, average and disappointing for a Sofitel Hotel, we are members of Accor Hotels and have stayed in many.

There is only one chef to cater for a number of orders, no waffles, tomato juice was canned, coffee terrible, fruit selection poor. Sofitel needs to visit some Asian Hotels to capture the essence of a good breakfast, like the Excelsior in Hong Kong or the Marriott in Bangkok.

The hotel offers two small swimming pools with deck chairs, tennis courts, walking track, health club $15.00 entrance fee, car parking, baggage storage, bathrobes, balconies, laundry service, safe, and air-conditioning.

Unique Quality: Overall, this hotel is in a great position just a few minutes wal to the beach and offering excellent accomadation.

It just seemed to have a few staff problems which I'm sure they are NOW worked out.
