If you want to escape the backpacker scene then this would be a good choice, they have a quiet time from 10pm. I only had one night here (July 19th 2005) but I liked the slightly messy, comfy style of the place. All painted in Aboriginal styles and only AU$20 per night.
They also have a pool and nice outdoor places to sit around in, plus a bouns; free street parking.
Lots of good local knowledge from the people on reception.
I stayed in Carins City Backpackers for 3 days. Quiet and clean, each room has funny name: 2 kangoroos, 1 butterfly, 3 frogs......
I recommended this backpackers' to my friends I met in other cities when I heard they whould go to Carins.
Unique Quality: Colorful walls in dorms. Wood facilities in dinning-room. Little pool, there are hammocks in the yard, but I had no chance to lay in, cause there always someone in it.
Servicemen are good guys.
Free dinner every night!
