Tropical resort

I stayed at the hotel in 1999, but glancing at their web site shows the hotel hasn't lost its charm and beauty that made my stay there so enjoyable. On landing at Cairns airport there was a courtesy car waiting for me, on arrival at the hotel I was told as it was breakfast time I could check in after I'd eaten. The time it took from stepping off the plane to being sat in a tropical resort by a pool having a meal was 45 minutes. That set the scene for my stay, the staff were so friendly & helpful throughout my stay.

Unique Quality: The hotel is set in 4.5 hectares of tropical gardens. All the hotel rooms are either ground or first floor & they open out into the gardens. The hotel has 3 lagoon pools, bars, restaurants & all the leisure & business facilities you need.

The hotel is situated 4km from Cairns city centre & 7km from the airport. Free transfers to and from the airport are provided. There is a free regular shuttle bus to Cairns city centre too.

Great resort for all ages

This hotel was the highlight of my accomodations in Australia. Set up as several one-story buildings around the property, it gives you the privacy you desire along with the Aussie hospitality you've grown accustomed to in Melbourne and Sydney. Its located a little outside of the city center, but the hotel runs a free shuttle to and from town during the day. If you want to experience the Cairns nightlife, the front desk will be happy to call a cab for you.

There are three pools throughout the property - one large one near the front of the hotel and two smaller ones further inside. All are very picturesque and great for relaxing poolside. The main pool also has a grill and bar for meals right off to the side. The pool closest to my room was my favorite - a whirlpool hidden inside a large rock, and a swim up bar for those fancy tropical drinks you always see in pictures. They are as good as they look!

Good value for money

The resort is on about 10 acres with 2 pools and although is a way out of town, it has a bus that takes you to town every hour on the hour. The rooms are a bit tired but still value for money...all the Contiki tours stay there.

by peeley about Cairns Colonial Club

Located on the edge of the rain forest just a couple of miles or so out of the main town
We stayed in the apartments which were nice - but hey - you only need them to sleep in ! Great gardens with hidden spa pools
Two good restuarants and bars
An extensive tour desk
courtesy shuttle bus to the town and airport

Basically the hotel is in a great postion to enjoy all the benefits that Queensland offers

Looking for a Hotel / Apartment for one week that wont break the bank

by tedmac

I'm looking for a place to stay for one week in June 2009. Does anyone know of any little hidden gems anywhere. Not looking for anything in the centre of the nightlife. Will probably hire a car. Something on or near the coast would be fantastic. Never been to Queensland before, so looking for some help and advice for a first timer. Many thanks , Ted

You might want to check out the High Chaparral Motel, 195-205 Sheridan Street, Cairns
http://www.highchaparralmotel.com/Tariffs.html

Located on a quiet residential street with food shops close by. Room includes mini kitchen and facilities. Built around an inner court yard, very private.

I found it very easy travelling from there w/o a car. Bus stops on the corner.

I live in Brisbane Queensland but haven't visited Cairns for 20years as its 2000ks from us. A good site for you to visit is sunloverholidays.com.au It will give you information on everything you need to know. They have prices on 42 hotels in cairns itself, or you can download their brochures and find prices for the beach areas a little way from Cairns. Hiring a car is a good way to go. There is so much to see, i'm sure you will have a great time. I remember when we were there that we loved green island and all the tropical fish. Have a great time.

In 2005, we stayed at the Cairns Colonial Club, it was around $80 per night booked through Wotif.com.
It is in a quiet part of town, about 10 mins from the centre of Cairns and they have a free shuttle bus that runs all day. It was a lovely place to stay with beautiful grounds and pool areas. They also had a lovely restuarant there. I would stay there again.

Yes, Cairns Colonial Club is good. You could also think about one of the northern beach villages - Palm Cove or Trinity Beach would be my choice. Plenty of accommodation in both (which you can google) and it's a fifteen minutes or so drive into Cairns.
