149 fantastic and friendly
We had our own private room, cannot do dorms, and the room i have to say was extremly clean and spacious to the point that we had a living room and a very spacious bedroom, the staff are fantastic when you arrive they arrange everything that you want to do, with a time table every trip they sent us on was perfect to what we wanted. Easy to meet people here to, even though you are not allowed to hang out after 11pm out side because of the noise its fine, this place is only worth stayin if ur looking for something clean friendly and somewhere to lay ur head at night....
Unique Quality: small pool, did not go in it, but serves the need if you fancy a dip, there one TV which is outside, not the best for viewing but still it there, there's a few pc stations which also close at around 11pm but open at 7 and people tend to b quick on them

Caravella 149 Backpackers
Rooms are recently renovated, air-conditioned, bright, airy and spacious. I was very impressed with how nicely it was decorated, more like a hotel than a hostel. We booked all our dive trips through the hostel as well as bus trips. The staff were very helpful.
Unique Quality: This hostel has clean but basic accommodation with several small kitchens and a big outdoor area with a swimming pool, pool table and plenty of picnic tables. All the rooms have fridges and air-conditioning and some have nice sea views. We paid AUD50 for a double room

Quality at a reasonable price
This hostel is located at about ten minutes walk from the central square. The walk to the centre is quite amusing, cause you can walk along the Esplanade, where's there's plenty of entertainment. You won't even notice that you're walking for ten minutes!
There's different type of rooms, ranging from private rooms with airconditioning, ensuite bathroom and fridge, to plain 10-bed dorms. The rooms are being cleaned every day and in general they look good.
One of the best things about the hostel is the big swimming pool, that gets sunshine all day. Considering the fact that you can't go swimming in the ocean, that's an important feature of a hostel.
At the reception there's an opportunity to book all your trips, from 6-day diving trips to a day-trip to Kuranda. They also provide internet with prepaid cards, very convenient when you wanna check your email for a couple of minutes. For longer periods of time it's better to go to one of the internet cafe's.
They use an intercom for all kinds of messages, for instance when someone's waiting for you at reception or when you receive a phonecall.
At night reception's closed and you can only enter the hostel through a gate, using a special code. When you go on a trip for a couple of days you can store your luggage for free.
Unique Quality: The atmosphere is very friendly and social. Every Sunday there's a backpacker football (soccer) tournament with lots of hostels. This is a good opportunity to get to know the poeple in your hostel.
Another good thing about the hostel is the great pool. Especially the fact that you get the sun from the early morning till the late afternoon is really nice.
