Still Can't Find Someting To do??
by RedEaredPanda
In Carins, you can not help but notice the tourist information shops all over the place on the esplanade and around the city's major tourist area. They are pretty much travel agents selling tours!! Even though at times it gets a little annoying to be visually bombarded by advertisement, it isn't a bad idea to spend a little time browsing the pamphlets given away for free for all the different tours offered by many different companys. Different companys offer generally the same tour with a little difference for a different price.. So it's a great idea if you're interested in taking tours, to do a little shopping around to find the best deal.
If time is limited, tours can actually help you see the most even though I am not a very big fan of them simply because time allowed is limited and I usually like to take my time and absorb the surroundings!!! That said, tours can be a great option!!
Waterfall Tours
by grkboiler
The waterfall tour I took was with On The Wallaby. It is geared towards backpackers and younger travellers. On the tour you go outside of Cairns and see 3 waterfalls (Millaa Millaa, Zillie, and Ellinjaa), the Cathedral Fig Tree, and take a nature walk through Lake Barrine National Park. Lunch is included. The guide was very enthusiastic and informative. It is a very relaxing trip that takes a full day. It cost me AU$65. It now costs $80 according to the website.
See my Millaa Millaa page for more info and pictures.
Cairns Airport

Arrival
The domestic terminal in Cairns is rather small and we had no problems getting our luggage. There is an ATM and Currency Exchange in the arrival hall and also desks of the main car rental companies.
For transportation to Cairns or your accommodation there are two possibilities:
- a shuttle bus, servicing the city centre and the hotels (AUD 8,- per person);
- taxi’s to your accommodation (the fare to the city is about AUD 15,-). We had to take a taxi, because our accommodation was quite outside the city centre and could pay with a credit card.
Departure
After check-in and customs the domestic terminal has a departure lounge, where passengers for all airlines have to wait till their plane is leaving. This lounge has several shops (for your last shopping), a news agent and some food outlets.
Beach Bar 'N Grill
by aussirose about Trinity Beach Bar 'N Grill
If you head off to Trinity Beach for the day, then a nice place to do lunch is at the Trinity Beach Bar 'n Grill. The view is what makes it special here.
Trinity Beach Bar 'n Grill is across the road from the beach, food is your average beachside dining fish & chips. The fish was fresh, chips quite a decent serving for the price.... so we couldn't go wrong!
Hubby & Zig ordering at the counter gave me a chance to check out the surfies!.... ;o)
......Shhhh..
Great Barrier Reef
by grkboiler
You cannot come to Cairns without snorkeling or diving at the Great Barrier Reef. Passing this up would be a waste of an entire vacation.
I took a cruise on the ReefQuest run by Deep Sea Divers Den. The boat leaves at 7:30 AM and returns at 4:30 PM. You get about 4 hours of quality time to snorkel, dive, and relax in the sun. Lunch is included.
For snorkeling, it costs about AU$70 for adults and half for children. Diving lessons can be conducted and prices vary for how many dives you take. Certified Divers pay about $120 for 2 dives and $150 for 3. All equipment is included. Bring an underwater camera! You can also rent one. I used a disposable and the pictures came out great.
I signed up at the Pier Marketplace near the marina where the boat is docked.
