Reception opening hours are unusual, 7am-12pm and 4:30pm-8pm, but there is always a member of staff at the hostel who can still check you into your room just you have to leave your passport with them. The rooms, are either twin, double or dorms. Dorms contain either 3 single beds, or 1 bunk and 1 single. They are clean and secure. However one obvious dorm necessity is missing, lockers. JJ’s have no lockers although they do have a safety deposit box in reception and a storage facility also in reception. NO BUNKS The communal facilities are a medium sized TV area, and plenty of outside seating. JJ’s have a swimming pool which is handy if you’ve built up a sweat. Other facilities provided are a vending machine, board games, a book exchange and two kitchens, both very clean. One of the kitchens is situated next to the TV area and has basic facilities, whereas the second is larger and has all cooking facilities a traveller requires. Guests are provided with a FREE breakfast everyday of their stay, and FREE dinner at the Woolshed in central Cairns. JJ’s can also provide discounts on tours which saves you the hassle of booking in the city centre and furthermore JJ’s is situated within a 2minute walk of an IGA supermarket,and two fast food shops. The exclusion of internet facilities at this hostel makes it more charming. Guests have little choice but to communicate and join in discussions with the other guests, which means your more likely to make friends, and JJ’s motto is spot on ‘your home, away from home.’ In conclusion, for $20 a night (dorm room) a traveller is getting more than they are paying for, you stand more chance of making friends as it’s a small hostel, the rooms are not huge dorms, you need not spend any money on food in the morning and evening as meals are provided, and perhaps most importantly its secure, safe and your ‘home away from home’ Staff are SO FRIENDLY

we spent two nights here, not the quietest place we ever stayed in, our room was at the front and overlooked the place where people like to sit and chat, unfortunately they liked to chat till the wee small hours admittedly we were by eons the oldest guests, and totally unfuelled by alcohol, if we were 30 years younger we`d probably have loved it, despite the general shabbiness, uncomfortable beds and noise levels it was a very friendly place
