Paronella Park
by CultusLake
Paronella park is a very interesting place. It is south of Innisfail which is 80 km south of Cairns. It is at Mena Creek. It is a park with an old mansion and a great history of one of the local people who lived there in the 1920-50's. There is a beautiful waterfall, lovely paths winding through beautiful gardens. There is also an aboriginal dance show and a bush tucker walk. The staff are extremely helpful and very welcoming. If you tour Paronella Park you can stay for one night with your caravan in the caravan park. There is also a night show. This is a must see, and hard to explain, you have to experience it!! There is also a night show. I was given a locals pass, so I can go again when more freinds come to visit.
Cheap bus to and from Kuranda
by Gypsygirl05
If you'd like to see Kuranda but aren't willing to spring for the $40-90 per person that it takes to ride the SkyRail/train, there are buses that go to and from Kuranda about 5 times a day. These buses range anywhere from $4-8 per person, and they depart from downtown Cairns. Two companies I have heard of are John's Kuranda Bus (which I used) and Trans North Bus & Coach Service (see website below). The buses are nothing special, but they are efficient, cheap, and they get you where you need to go.
Lovely Greek Food
by aussirose about Fetta's Greek Tavern
Fetta's took my fancy. The meal list looked yummy and the ambience inside with the Mediterranean atmosphere and nice music drew me in. When hubby arrived, I thought this restaurant would be a nice place for an romantic interlude :o)
And I wasn't wrong! We were able to do byo (bring your own grog) as well. I just loved this place and hubby did too :o)
And the pic of us together at the table with a nice bottle of byo red has a story.
Ann - TheTravelSlut bought us over three bottles of red from California. Knowing how much I loved the last lot she bought over, Ann knew I would just love some more!! ...So here we are Ann... polishing off one of your yummy reds at the Greek Restaurant in Cairns :o) ...Very nice too!! ;o)
The Reef Fleet
by Marpessa
In Cairns there is a jetty terminal called the 'Reef Fleet' - this is where ferry's, cruises and reef tour day trips leave from Cairns. The Great Barrier Reef is definitely a must see, the water is beautiful and the view of Cairns and Queensland from the Reef is amazing.
